So, in case anyone wonders; the Wolf does exhibit the tiniest maneuverability advantage over the Alpha Wolf. For that you have to drag around the stupid dagger board fin. My guess is most normal players like the look of the Alpha so much more that is what they will fly. In the pledge store you can buy both ballistic and energy guns for the two wolves so you can fly the 21 with energy or the 22 with ballistics.
So, IMHO; the Alpha with ballistics is going to be the new meta for deck fighters. It’s tiny size and turret busting firepower is going to prove a superb combination.
So for instance, the Liberator looks can house 3 Eclipse, 15 Alphas, and 3 Retaliators for their bunks and torpedoes; to comprise a shockingly powerful strike force of 27 S9 torps and the means to get them to target. That is approximately 11M points damage delivered past the shields. Certainly enough to scrub a pair of Void Bombers, a Polaris, an Idris, and perhaps even the vaunted Vanduul Marauder Destroyer.
Filling a Liberator with 15 Alphas (plus a Medivac respawn point and maybe a couple Razor EX scouts) could work extremely well in coordination with a Polaris. The problem with the Polaris is it is too squishy to go toe to toe with a pair of Void Bombers wielding their 6 S10 weapons, but given 15 Alphas with S4 ballistics to remove PDWs on the bombers and their many turrets, the Polaris is really perfect to finish the job. The Polaris torpedoes do 21M damage total, if you can get them on target, so combined with the Liberator strike team I’ve described, we’re talking about 32M points damage.
I like it.
