Why a 6700k and why H110 chipset? Also 7700k is almost outdated with the 8 series coming. If you wait a few months, then the 7 series will drop in price, hopefully also the RAM prices, but I

wow, my first return for repair was 5 months later
I will be upgrading later but I just want to be able to start playing and make upgrades later

In that case don't pick the 6700k, the 7700k costs only $9 more. The new generation CPUs won't fit on the board, so the 7700k is the best you can get.
even 7700k could cause some issues with this board - I checked :((( .. also 7700k is much better with big cooling and inside of full tower ... so for upgrade memory ssd and videocard will be salvageable .. psu will be borderline and the rest is out :(

@Bruce what about the MSI - B250M PRO-VD Micro ATX LGA1151? does that work good with a 7700k? I went for the MSI Z270M Mortar, but my budget is different.
@Skypirate do you want to play SC with it? I have a GTX970, it is doable, but my next upgrade will be a better GPU

don't listen to me lol ... I lose ability to build computers below 2k long time ago  ... your mobo is really good for 6700k nobody is going to argue that.
Not arguing just looking for advice I did puch to the 7700k but what's a better board for the setup?

Let me clarify myself - the point is - for the long term perspective on Intel side of the force - you should aim for i9 .. so at minimum we are talking about https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813144059&cm_re=x299-_-13-144-059-_-Product ( $220 ) +
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117793&cm_re=7800x-_-19-117-793-_-Product ( $380 )

and you need to do your homework looking for the proper cooling .... it will be obviously ~ 200 dollars extra and have "bleeding edge" risks .. but on positive side - you have 0 throwaway ( even CPU will be trade-able for a long time )

I skipped 4,5,6 and 7th generations of intel completely so I could only google some knowledge but I bet everyone has the same (or better) googling skill :)

Yes sc is the main focus of the build but for now I'm on a budget but will upgrade later for sure

And quad channel memory, which unfortunately will push the price up slightly :slight_frown:

Damn, since you could tell that the B170 board could give issues with the 7700k, I assumed that you had some better knowledge source.

I skipped everything between Pentium 1 MMX and 6th generation

don't save too much on the GPU. SC uses it a lot. At least a 1070 to keep it playable on full res.
Now is NOT the time to buy a GPU - 100%. I bought 1080 just cause it was time, but I feel upgrade is coming late 2018 / early 2019-ish (so his idea to get 1060 which definitely is able to run SC for now, on 720p or 1080p ( remember - we didn't even start discussion on monitors  ) is good).

Sorry, late to this thread...
Before I would build anything, I'd compare what you have to what these guys are selling:
http://www.digitalstorm.com/vanquish-7.asp

If you scroll down to the bottom, you can see their 1060 gpu PC is priced at $1,199. Yeah, I know it is $160 more, but, it could save you some hassle. Not sure if you really wanted to build a PC. If you like that stuff, then go for it! (Me, I decided a long time ago that I was through with that...).

Edit: btw, do you already have a copy of Windows? If not, how much is that costing you?

Hello everyone tnx for all the warm welcome I truly admire how you guys work as a community.I do have a favor to ask, this is a link to my Amazon shopping cart https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/c/ref=ord_cart_shr?app-nav-type=none&dc=stp I'm pretty new to pc gaming but want to move on from console to be part of the star citizen and the PC community I have around 1k USD to spend so any advice would help as I'm still not sure what works best.ty
try building a PC with pcpartpicker.com
it will give you the lowest prices available for each part you build and will tell you about any discrepancies with compatability between parts.

I was all over it in a second but I can't find 1060 gpu PC with 16 Gb of RAM at all (and even less so for 1199) .. Is there any link to click directly ? ( this would solve quite a few problems, as digital storm isn't too bad at all)

PLEASE do not use that Corsair PSU, anything under a RM (even that is iffy) should be avoided. HX,AX,HXi and AXi are all worth looking at, as is just about anything with a Superflower or Seasonic label. A good PSU can last for multiple builds and prevents a small fire in a box.
