The announcement came at 10pm last night (Memorial Day in the US) so it silpped under the radar...

Anyway, Nvidia announced their 3080Ti and 3070Ti video cards, apparently coming soon (like June 3rd soon, not SoonTM soon, ha ha...that is, if you can find one in stock).

I decided a month ago I was going to just get a plain vanilla 3080. The 3080Ti specs put it somewhere between a 3080 and 3090...most benchmarks with games show that unless you have a huge monitor and need the extra video RAM, that the 3090 is only about 15% faster...so, price vs. performance, the 3080Ti does not look like it is worth the 40% extra (retail) price.

However, if you want "bragging rights" then yeah, go get a 3090 or 3080Ti. Me...with the money I save, I can buy more JPEG Space Ships. Plus, Star Citizen ain't releasing any time soon, I'm betting there will be another generation or two of video cards coming, and that in the mean time, the competition between AMD and Nvidia will really heat up. I hope, at least!

As long as I would have to buy a 4000 usd utter crap prebuilt PC or laptop to get the most basic ass 3060, cos there is no way on earth to get a standalone card, frankly I couldn't care less what they announce...

sad "Only having a 2060S" noises
(the scene I'm working on right now eats near 40gigs of RAM while rendering and could really use the extra VRAM cos it's clocked at a 100% all the time...)

The good part with crypto values plunging is i should reduce the demand on these cards.

For a modern TI, if not nearly or at 24GBs of RAM then they are leaving room on the table with those business practices tech channels have been warning about...
I won't save up to upgrade from my 1080ti in my machines until Nvidia pushes the envelop again. IMO 12GBs is being too conservative.

Scummy as always

Tldr.: 3090ti will NOT have mining limiter on it, cos they need the revenue to please investors who sued them for promising no drop off in sales due to crypto price fluctuations.

Nvidia doesn't give a shit who buys their cards as long as they fly off the shelves in an instant. Don't expect any better this time around either.

Yeah, you have got to believe that they regret releasing the 3080 for $699 now. I think they were afraid of the (then) soon to be released AMD cards.

I hope AMD keeps plugging away & increases the competition!

More reviews with benchmarks are coming in, TL;DR: No more than a 12% increase in performance, for about an 85% markup in price. No thanks!

Hmm. Maybe it's time to look at AMD again. It used to be my go-to video card until I got involved with AI, but that's moved to the cloud and devices now. What we really need is a couple more viable options for video cards.

Well, that was fun! nvidias shopping page was picked clean by bots before even a single offer became visible while the page was under constant obvervation by game magazines during the "launch". You can order your 3080Ti on Ebay now for double uvp of course :)

The current crop of AMD cards are fairly decent, esp. the 6800XT. It is nice that it has 16GB RAM.

However, this is really their "first gen", and I never buy first generation of *anything*. I'll wait and see what they release 2nd and 3rd gen...

Anywhere, here is a nice rundown of the current AMD cards...

EDIT--> forgot to paste the darn link:

Until they get their version of DLSS I'm not sure how good they'll be. It's the only way to play some games. Not sure if Unreal Engine 5 will make it not necessary or even more required. Anyone knowledgeable on that subject?

I'm really curious about real world performance of this UE5 stuff. I'll try to DL the beta and see how well it runs, or doesn't...

For me, a higher RAM Nvidia card would be really beneficial (like 32gigs or sumthin) with running fluid sims cos CUDA is hella fast compared to anything else. Also for rendering I need CUDA, so I'm basically locked in to the green team...

Wait, a 3080Ti you can get for 1199? The cheapest option for a 3080 atm is around 2000 🤣
Those 1199$ are MSRP....you can just ignore them or just take them and multiply at least for 2 for the real actual price you'll be a to see.

I could be interested in a 3070Ti... lets see the price point and, most important availability... if those stay in line with the current market I'll defenetly pass on this gen too... my 1070 will need to work some more before retirement...
