Not saying people HAVE to be organised, just floating the concept of 'What if we did it like this, in order to maybe make lives a little easier down the road?' but by all means, Disorganisation for the masses - It's just organised crime tends to work sliiiightly better in the long run :P
The term is organised crime aka Mob aka syndicates when you have disorganisation you have small street gangs that do nothing but petty crimes and living in poverty. I agree @FluffyVonRage in having a structure of leadership and knowing where and when to dispatch our henchmen to make massive profits in which we will all be living with the wealthy and rich citizens. Anyone that studied organised crime knows the top successful groups had a very well placed leadership structure. So the question is do you want to be part of a well organised crime syndicate or a unorganized poverty stricken street gang?

Fleet composition time?

I'd suspect we're going to need a much higher proportion of support craft than other divisions because of the combat orientated nature of things and the fact we're going to potentially have to hide out in asteroid belts and unpopulated sectors. Also going to be worth having a fair amount of cargo space incase we do manage to hit the HULL--E motherlode.

cool idea but the hull-e weakness is its large and slow and cant move so fast compared to most other ships, i regon Banu Merchantmen will be great warehouses and potential fences or bazaar, as they said it can set up shop anywhere, and it is a blockade runner, so it can still run fast even with a large cargo on it.. thats my appinion alteast..

Aw man, 2 more Reclaimers and and Caterpillars? You're just making me like you more and more. Having an entire fleet of stolen ships with nothing scrubbed clean and no insurance seems like the goal of the baddest most grand pirate of them all.

Hull-E motherlode refers to us knocking one over and having to then store the loot :P Merchantman is an excellent shout in regards to getting our new stuff out and sold though

Just remember that the more people you have, the more loot you have to take in order to make the same profit. He's thinking that a Hull E would be king because of it's SCU to pirate ratio. The problem that I can see with the Hull E is jump point size. Looking at the maps, pirate areas favor the medium jump points over the large, so something smaller would probably be better.

I would say that it all depends on how the cargo loads into the ship. We'll need something that can load it up fast, but also something that carries a lot. The fastest way to load it all into your own ship is to just take their whole ship. The cargo is already loaded when you get there and all you need to do is convince the crew to fly it home. One amazing fact, the ship that you are robbing can hold 100% of its cargo. Parading around with a stolen ship and unknown fuel supply is risky, but we have plenty of people with Crucibles and Geminis in order to counter those worries.

i see your point but looking cargo with fast Tractor Beam ships like cutlass or caterpillar could be potentielle faster since we dont know if the ships we try to steal may have a tracking device on or coding that gives that ship away ones we fly it around until we get those codes changed on the ship but i do see your point .. i just think it may be more risky but would proberly yield a larger profit if you get away with it

besides people are more willing to corperate if they know they only are missing a bit of cargo basicly paying a cross border fee ( acting like customs ) and the fee is a percentage of what they have XD, if they know they have to they will be more willing to cooperate then if they know they will lose everything including there ship

I know that it's a little under gunned, but I like the idea of using a Crucible to haul stolen goods. It's got a large area that you can stuff things and since the top opens up, loading them in is as simple as getting a Cutlass to throw them in with the tractor beams. Just think, it's really wide and kind of tall and a fair distance in length. It was said that it could hold a Cutlass with the top open. If we calculate the volume of a Cutlass of length times width times height (minus 2m so that we can close the door), we get 3,625 cubic meters. Divide by 1.25 to turn it into SCU and we get 2,900 SCU. So if we only used the garage to fill the ship with loot, we'd have 2,900 SCU of easily loadable stolen goods space. It only takes 3 people to run a Crucible. 4 is the max crew. That's a good split right there, plus you can still use that 300 SCU that's inside the ship to haul ammo, missiles, and things to repair your pirate fleet.

I'm not saying that we should only use Crucibles. I'm just saying that for stealing things, it's a really good choice. If we're stealing the ship we attack, the Crucible can also repair that so it's limping home. The Crucible has so many exits that it would make a good boarding craft too.

Just saying... the Crucible is one evil little ship.

The big reason for getting the MPUV cargo was to unload and load a captured cargo ship. I had no intention of ever being a hired hand at a space station. I'm sure we will encounter many Hulls A-E that will travel unprotected making it an easy payday for all.

I think that for loading and unloading cargo, a Cutlass is going to be the best so long as its a short distance. It's a ship that can help escort other ships. It's got a cargo bay. And it's got 3 tractor beams, 2 in the front and 1 in the back (that's what I quoted from her). Unless you mean landing the MPUV on something. The Reliant Kore has a tractor beam on a turret, so that can be useful too. It can hold more cargo than that little Argo too. The Argo almost seems like a burden to carry with you on pirate raids. :|

i kinda have to agree there im fairly sure if its a cap ship you can land a cutlass on it if it can hold a fighter ship, and a cutlass can hold more then a MPUV, ofcourse we may be wrong but thats just my thoughts, if we're talking fastest to load with tractor beams i think its the Caterpillar do to its cargo doors on each side of the cargo moduels, and a tractor beam above each of em as far as i understood to help load and unload mid space

besides most piracy in most games is sorta like a robbery in real life its in out you dont have time to set up a barbecue or put up party ballons if you do you might as well send invitations to the cops course you can be sure they will be attending in numbers :P. same shit here if you're too long about who you hit with a pirate ship you can be sure he has already called for help and the longer you stay the more help might arrive to help him out, be it military, enforces, local authorities or org mates..

thats why i say ships with tractor beams and fast loading mechanics

If you're talking about NPCs, maybe so, though the game's AI will adapt to frequent attacks in a system with stronger escorts. But it will still be just the outlaw equivalent of combat missions.

Player owned haulers will be another story. One lesson Eve Online has taught us is how risk-averse humans are. There was very little mining or industry in null-security space before the introduction of jump freighters which could go directly from soveregn null-sec to the borders of high-sec space and back.

I have played Eve on and off since 2008 and have never encountered a freighter or miners outside of sovereign null-sec or high-sec space. And there is a lot of space between the two.

Since SC lacks both sovereignty mechanics and jump freighters I expect there will be very little human economic activity outside of UEE-patrolled space.

And when you add in the fact that in SC different groups of players will be in different instances, the odds of finding a human to rob will be even lower.

I love the idea of extracting player tears through piracy, but I don't expect to be able to make an in-game living at it.
