Hiya TESTies.
I'm sitting in the field, rear echelon, being bored to tears. So I starting thinking about things that I either don't know, or am a little foggy on. SC related of course.

I figured I'd open a thread, and leave it open to all who have questions about the game. I figure out community is deep enough to answer almost anything.

TL;DR: a thread to for asking SC related questions.

Can someone explain boost to me? I double tap and I engage my afterburners. Yay, go fast in a straight line.

What does boost do?
Boost your maneuvering thrusters so you go fast sideways if strafing?

Skins: if I buy that nice pirate skin, is it good on the Aurora only? Or all ships? And is it an single use item, or can you use it multiple times on different ships?

The Gemini: I'm currently unable to watch any videos on it. How does it differ from the regular Beerfarer?
From what I read today it's the same ship just retrofitted for military use. I don't have specifics but I'd hope that means more guns/armor, but who knows.

If you are stand still, your velocity will be 0. If you hit full throttle, then your max speed will be reached in a certain time. Acceleration.
Boost (single hold) will speed up the time between 0 to max speed. Boost increases your acceleration.
Strafe is just a vector on a straight line. Boost also affects that vector. Your speed on the HUD is the speed straight forward, not the vector speed.

While strafing and turning, your are actually making more G-forces then you would have if you are only turning. G-safe tries to keep you G-forces within safe limits by correcting you max vector speed. Boost overrides G-safe and accelerates to your max vector speed.

Afterburner (double tap) will raise your max speed so you can go beyond your maximum vector speed. I don't know if afterburner also increases your acceleration. Afterburner also overrides your G-safe.

Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong :)

Boost makes your thrusters have more thrust. So if you're about to crash into a space rock you could boost and brake and your ship will stop faster. Turning also gets a boost when you use boost.

In lore, boost adds something into your fuel so you have bigger thrust all around. Afterburner is only main thruster(s).

Sweet. I need to practice boosting when either strafing or turning. Good to know.

One skin = whole fleet. So technically I could put the Operation Pitchfork skin on my Gemini?
How do you apply skins?

Anybody have anything to add to @DrunkenTeddy's info about the Gemini?
Is it identical inside to the Starfarer?

Skins:

1) So far the skins have only been created for Aurora's. They are supposed to support multiple ships.
2) Most skins say somewhere that they are RSI limited (I need to find that again). The idea being they are manufacturer specific, not ship model specific.
3) Skins are single use, but re-usable. You can put it on your LX, for example and then later switch it to your LN.
4) The Electro-skin Hull some people get bundled with packs allows you to have two different skins installed on one ship, allowing you to switch skins (show the flag) with the flip of a switch... It is an acutal "holo-projector" component that needs power, can be destroyed and allows you to go from Distinguished Service to Dread Pirate when you got close enough to see that Starfarer was carrying beer, for example :-)
5) Skins for the greycat work in the same manner, dropping Cherry Red on one will still allow you to switch it over to another one later. But you can not use one skin to turn all your greycats cherry.

I was curious a while ago, so I hunted down the answers ;-)

The Gemini: I'm currently unable to watch any videos on it. How does it differ from the regular Beerfarer?
Currently - Subject to change. The Gemini has:
1. Heavier armor
2. One size larger turret/gun
3. Missile bay Module in front (Standard has an Air Scoop Module) --- These Modules will be interchangeable between the two ships.
4. Larger Main engine and Thrusters (heavier armor)
5. It was stated that the Gemini would have less cargo capacity. (Don't remember if it was external or internal or both)
Note: As was just stated, The basic hull was purchased from MISC and cannot be changed. Therefore, I believe they will both have the same cargo capacity but that is just my guess.

Personal Conclusion: The main benefit of having a Gemini is for Self Defense. If I go into less safe systems, it will be to carry fuel for a fleet or carry cargo to a specific location. Either way, I will be protected by escort fighters so I plan to keep my Base Starfarer (I can also use the Missile Module if I want). If I were to operate primarily in dangerous area, then I would get the Gemini. As several members already have a Gemini, I plan to use my base Starfarer mainly in UEE systems. CityBopping & BarHoppin sort of thing.

Both are excellent ships. (And FUN to fly)

@Rolo. Wealth of information my friend. Thank you kindly. So only Aurora skins. Understood. And interchangeable, but not on multiple ships at once. Roger.

Now, this electro-skin hull: where do I find this?

@CosmicTrader. Once again you drop the knowledge. Thank you. I'm some excited to get home and crawl around inside my Gemini, and see for myself the differences. And fly her. Mwaaahahaha.

Thank you gentlemen.

Where Accented said ^^ :)

If you have a package with the campaign skins and Electro-skin Hull, you find it in the package description in your hangar:

My package also comes with 9 campaign skins.
There are 6 skins ( I think) currently available, but I think at least the SxSW skin is considered an event skin and not a campaign skin.

At any rate, I expect these cosmetic things to come later down the line, now that they've done a few samples. (And now that they are completely changing the paint and decal system :p )

What the heck package is that? I'm intrigued.

This article is a stub. You can help Star Citizen Wiki by expanding it.

“ The idea is that we will make skins available and allow players to make their own (within rules) once the game fully goes live. ”
–Chris Roberts

What these rules are, is still not known, but ships will get different skins, which allow the players to change the appearance of their ships.
  • Electro-skin upgrade module with included dual-backer skin ("You Got Our Backs")
  • Explorer skin
  • Military skin
  • Blackbeard skin
  • False colors skin
  • Cutlass package skin
  • "Shut Up and Take My Money" skin
  • Record breaker skin for surpassing $5.5m in crowd funding
  • $10K+ backer skin

Being retired and limited, I've been accumulating my fleet in dribs and drabs... a few months ago I realized I was concierge, I already had 10 ships, only a couple LTI and I was *working* toward an 18 ship wing (that's the plan, anyway).

So I melted everything and bought a Battle Pack.
That gave me some nice bonus goodies (including the skins and a *third* aquarium I didn't necessarily care about...), and also 13 LTI ships (several of them limited - including the 350r and SH) to build up toward the wing I wanted.
When you CCU a ship in the pack it puts the upgraded ship at the end of the gallery, so those ships were some of my upgraded Battle Pack (The Starfarer has one more step to go to the Crucible and the Delta is actually my 315p, just there for testing at the moment).

The skins *currently* only fit the Auroras... eventually, who knows... as they've said, they are redoing the paint and decal scheme completely.

I've thought about it, but the battle pack doesn't start me where I want to be. Too many ships, and not enough of them being the ones I want. I'm looking to keep my fleet between 4-6 ships. There are other packs that hit the store with the anniversary sale, but at the time they were too damn much for me. And I believe in order to get the LTI, you need to spend over $1000 on the package. :(
I'll look again the next time they have a massive sale. Perhaps something there will entice me. The Pirate pack, the explorer pack, or the blue collar pack...

Good to know. Thanks for the knowledge drop gentlemen.

Ahhhhh, ok, understood. That's the upgraded ships in the battle pack.
