Hey all, I am thinking that between my Vanguard and Polaris that I have my bases covered and the Retaliator will just not get played. Thinking of changing it out to fill an industry gap, already have a Banu and Starfarer. What do you guys think about the necessity to keep the Retaliator, and then what may Diversify my fleet.

Thinking between modular transport, mining, or salvage, hell even repair.

Thanks!

Sounds like you have room for a mining ship, but unless you are going to go mining there is not much point in having one...

As said above the 'Tali will have its place - Less crew needed to fly one for a start, compared to the big Polaris, you may find you prefer a smaller less crew-heavy craft when all your friends are in bed and you don't want the hassle of NPC's manning your systems... and with the modules you can make it drop-ship, for instance.

Thanks for the insights guys. For clarification, I am not lost in the dark looking for a guide to play the game I want to play. I would not have mentioned the industry ships if I didn't have some interest in those areas. More looking for thoughts on early game money making and diversity of options.

Also I don't get the assessment of the Retaliator. If I need some real bunker busting and have the people to help Polaris does a better job. If I am going more solo, not really much of Torpedo boat goals that happen solo, but IF there is one, a vanguard with a Torpedo loadout would fill that slot just right. So that is where I am thinking my Retaliator just won't get flown. I like the idea of the Orion as I don't have a miner and early game that is probably a great source of income. Any other thoughts on Orion vs Reclaimer or other ideas in diversity of jobs.

I started with the Retaliator Base as a gunship and added cargo modules and living modules. This way the Retaliator also can be used as a heavy armed transport for dangerous goods or personal transport. I hope that NPCs will do a good job so I don't have to rely on too much people to fly the Tali.
With the Polaris coming, I sacrificed the Tali for a mobile hangar / pool table, but got it back for free, even got the additional Torpedo bays as I switched to Carrier air wing. The Polaris will cost money to fly, the Retaliator is my money maker with its cargo modules.

For making Credits in the early game it seems current consensus is the Starfarer with fuel rig will bring in the dough as you won't have to spend any money to bring home the bacon - the ship will supply its own fuel, it refines the fuel, you just have to sell the fuel to... everyone. We will all need fuel.

The Prospector is a good little ship for solo industrial activity. I can see it making money from the beginning. Gotta think that a lot of people will have Stargazers, so most fuel will sell to NPCs. Not sure how much they pay, but I assume most avenues will generate income if you have a supply ship.

Better tell Picard that. He may want to jump back into the captain's chair. for old time sake.

Seriously, pick what YOU think you'll do long term. If that is mining get a Prospector. Cargo/Fuel get a Starfarer. Pure cargo get a Hull series. Some style get a BMM. Its a personal choice.

I would go for a small mining ship and a small cargo ship. those will be fuel efficient to get you started in the verse.. allowing you to make bank for supplying and running your bigger ships.

It's a no brainer IMHO if looking at cargo as a career. It's nearly the same price as a Hull C and yet much much better.

What about the humble freelancer?

It can trade, explore & fight

you can crew it yourself and do some exploration i have a dragon fly for the back so i can land on planets and zoom around!
it will be able to go through the smallest jump points so faster trade lanes than bulk freighters like connies and BMM,
Low sig fuel efficient engines to start
It will have xian tech in it and modules so its a very diverse little ship

some things im doing with mine
Passenger Escort
Exploration
Bounty Hunting
Trading/Smuggling
Drop Ship

This will only be expanded when we get more info on modules

Hard to pass up in my book!
