I totally agree. No question it's an amazing mechanic long-term. I'm worried about the gameplay from now until your vision finally becomes a reality. Until then, I don't see a scenario where the mantis doesn't end up being a grief machine.
I forgot to mention you can always Afterburn out of the device's range and QT after that or kill them to turn it off. It's more danger to the player who has to activate the device than anything unless he has friends there. which from there i would consider that actual gameplay more than grieving. get blown up then take a different route when you respawn such as go 20km to the right.

last time i played seriously in the verse if you fired on someone you got a crime stat. so lets say your flying along, and pulled out of quantum. the moment you fire on the ship pulling you out are you automatically getting a crime stat? what about 3 players working together on you, one pulls you out and 2 fighters start attacking you as soon as you exit quantum. not much of a chance while your getting your bearings to defend yourself. till better pvp mechanics come in, this is nothing but a griefing nightmare.
Id consider someone pulling you out of QT to be a criminal so if anything they should gain a crimestat for pulling you out. This is the only way i can think of as a way around that. I'm sure if they make missions to pull NPCs out it will be either a pirate mission or somewhere in which people wont QT past.

Pulling people out of QT for the purposes of what exactly? To conduct piracy that isn't really in the game yet? Stealing cargo would take impossibly long time to load up, sell and distribute the profits (and let's face it, something will probably glitch out before all of that is finished). Or to chase PvP bounties that aren't in the game yet?

There is literally no use for this ship until more gameplay mechanics are added. It will be glorious when they do, but until then I contend the mantis is nothing more than a grief machine.

It is lacking a lot of the law and order mechanics that would fully limit its use. The other aspect is that the SC universe is rather limitedly populated at the moment and so most would not even have the patience to sit and wait for the off chance that someone's warp path will fly into their bubble let alone a group of pirates willing to make an attempt (A lone Mantis doesn't even look capable of taking on a Mustang having had to turn off so much to sustain the bubble).

So in 3.7 I have a feeling any lone Mantis player will be easy to destroy and should just be targeted and destroyed for the joy of it. And any group of pirates just run for the edge and warp away. At most, it's just going to be a nuisance for a few weeks and then everyone will return to ramming and taking pot shots just outside the amnesty zone.

I tend to agree, I would hope that anyone pulling someone out of QT would get a crimestat or flagged as the aggressor as if they attacked you, unless the person being pulled out already has a crimestat themselves. Ideally you would be able to freely defend yourself against the Mantis if necessary plus it would all for people bounty hunting player criminals to do so without a negative repercussion for engaging in that playstyle.

Piracy is in the game now (as long as the escort beacons are working) and so are pvp bounties.

According to the wiki (https://starcitizen.tools/Star_Citizen_Alpha_3.7.0),
Pvp bounty hunting isn't being added until 3.7. Even if it works correctly, there still doesn't appear to be a way for the mantis to specifically pull players with bounties out of QT. Yet...

Piracy, while technically in the game, isn't even close to being viable due to numerous missing game mechanics. Such as the ability for ships to easily load and dump cargo, tractor beams, group resource management, profit splitting/sharing, etc., etc. It would take hours upon hours to even attempt pirating something, let alone succeeding.

Now, what's more likely? Players taking anywhere from 2-5 hours to pirate somebody for a very minimal return (and actually succeeding without something glitching out) or players taking 20-45 min to sit outside of port-O with their friends and randomly interdict, shit on, and grief some nerds.

This is exactly my point. The game isn't ready for the mantis's role because so many of the mechanics and gameplay loops still need to be completed. Consequently, it's only purpose at this stage is to be a nuisance to others. It's the RSI Griefer... Put a couple of these outside of port-O paired with a few Freelancer MIS's and watch the nerd rage devour the server.

Now that I think of it...kinda sounds like fun, huh?!?

From the protracted reveal it was clear soon enough, it was gonna be the quantum snatcher, but got to say I'm bummed that it wasn't the heavy fighter that might have provided an alternative to the vanguard. That I might have used. This.... its like the penguin EMP - the space it takes up make what could be a good or useful ship a one trick pony. Great if that pony has a cavalry charge at its back. At least an EMP buys you the time to run.

I agree whole-heartedly. It will be awesome in the future, but I'm scared of the road until we get there.
Haha, I avoid that road by not playing. I wish they flesh out in-game mechanics - salvage, mining, crafting.

Concur. One trick pony. I think they put it in a small defenceless ship just so they could get the mechanic in game and have people test it. If they'd made it a larger ship; 1 - they wouldn't have had it designed for I game use yet; 2 - not as many people would be playing it, ergo no testing of the mechanic.
In that respect it's rather brilliant to put it in a shitty little ship, so that mass amounts of people abuse it, thereby testing the mechanic.

Literally, handwavium. Since they wrote the game, the can add that wherever they add an interdiction force, for however long they want.
It's not like what happens right now is lore, if they want to fix it in the next release they can just add a Mantis to the mix, would make for some gameplay of trying to either leave it's sphere of influence or destroy/disable it.

I like this idea a lot. Just need to add another ship with EMP. Then you can come on the comm's and say. Yep you know the drill in fact we are the jolly pirates and will make sure you have enough cash left over to buy some of @NaffNaffBobFace TP to clean yourself up.
The Polaris can launch Arrestor III missiles, and we may see Arrestor 10 torps. Certainly it can mount one big-ass distortion cannon on the chin. So I doubt am EMP bird is necessary. Using a cannon is the cheapest solution.

I think though given my choice, I'd still want to drop ships direct into distortion weapon filled minefields. That just sounds full of fun.

PVP bounties have been in for a few patches. The mantis' ability to suppress the bounties ability to engage their QT drive would be really useful. A few bounties know what they are doing and just jump away. Would have to do it with a team mate because of how weak the mantis is otherwise.

There 100% is "legit" piracy now. And it might be better than whatever they come up with later.

I don't want cargo, I want money.

Find trader that just loaded up their ship. Tell them in chat to put out an escort beacon for XXXX amount of credits or get exploded. Accept beacon. Get money.

Can pirate in a couple sabres this way. Extortion is a lot easier than needing a cargo ship.

And for the 2nd point, why not both? :)
