Glad you're back @Sam K Macer! Sorry about the hearing issue. Glad you have some resolution on it though. Is it complete loss, or do you just need to put on REALLY BIG headphones?

Well, its hard to explain. I always thought, this hearing issue/loss of hearing ability is based on psycho stress/issues. But at the med clinic they told me that it can't be because then it would affect both ears. They now found the reason - but they don't have an answer on the "why". Fact as it is: there is no cure. Now, if the hearing ability remains where it is - at some frequences at 35%, some higher, the highest are still almost good - I can live with that. The professor warned me to avoid stress at all costs. Well - I'll do my very best.

OMG, look at that puppy face!!!! She's so cute!! I'm not known for acting girly, but put animals in front of me, and there's just too much cuteness to contain.

I wasn't feeling all that collected yesterday, and then I watched a couple Game of Thrones episodes last night. I'm not usually a movie-cryer, but those had me openly crying. I think maybe I just needed a good cry. (I'm only halfway through the finale of season 5, I haven't seen any of season 6 yet, no spoilers please.)

My bosses are out of the office starting with after lunch today through the end of the week. Which either means I'll have peace and quiet to get stuff done, or all of their customers will call me. I also have a performance tomorrow night, and am performing at a wedding on Saturday. And then another performance next week that I'm not ready for. I'm a bit stressed.

Mmm, now I want cake. Crumbly coffee cake, moist yellow birthday cake with chocolate frosting and sprinkles, cheesecake with cherries on top...
That...sounds like stress  But its also fun, isn't it? :)

Okay, lets see what we can see......

I know what you mean though. Sometimes just having a diagnosis is reassuring.

Yeah, it's fun stress. I just do too much, so I don't get to leave enough time for the fun stuff, which causes stress. I really wish I could quit my job and make my money being a writer and performer, but it just doesn't work that way.

The cake is perfect. :)

I'm sorry about your diagnosis....

I have significant hearing loss in my left ear from shingles that I had when I was 6... it caused nerve damage on the left side of my neck all the way into my ear. I now wear a hearing aid and while it can sometimes be inconvenient, it *does* amplify things to the point where I can hear better than most people around me. I just consider my self "bionic" :-)

Stay hopeful and work in your garden frequently. I have found working in my back yard to be one of the most stress relieving things I can do. If there is anything I can do to help from here (even if it is on the other side of the planet), let me know.

Do you wear this CI (Cochlea implantat)...?

Well, dear TESTies - its good to be back, had a lot of fun today, reading and writing herein. But now its past 6 p.m. and I have to go home now for my dancing lessons. All the best, have a nice day, morning or night - and however: we'll read us tomorrow!
Cheers

Did I mention that I like these "Like"-Buttons? Using these I always know which posts I read and which not :D
That's how I keep track of my last read post as well. Great minds think alike, Milady.
*sigh* :( It's always hard for me to find the right words being a non-native speaker. But as Rolo and MzHartz already have written in very sensitive words I want to join these. Feel being hugged!
Second this post, and the hug. Wise words from both @Rolo and @MzHartz.

Well, nothing special. Its a kind of a "extended couple's therapy": once a week we are going three hours to dancing sessions, focussed on standard and latin dances :)

But today it had to be cancelled :( Well, looking forward to next week.

Ooooooo, that sounds like fun! I wonder if I could convince my wife to put down her hockey stick and take dance with me. Hehe

Nope, standard hearing aid. A cochlear implant delivers sound from a damaged inner ear to the nerves... in may case, it is the nerves themselves that are damaged. There is no way to fix my type of loss. The only thing I can do is make up for the damaged nerve with amplification via a hearing aid. I have heard, however, that cochlear implants work wonders for those that have them.

Okay, thanks. Haven't talked to people who are wearing these CI. But due to the fact that sooner or later this will be the last option for me (and everythings inside of me is screaming *NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!*) I should do that..talk to those people. But FOR NOW I am happy...kind of. Wearing this hearing aid (Widex, 3k EUR - imagine how many spaceships that could've been :confused::D) is okay; I nevertheless have to ask twice during conversations, but less hearing is better than no hearing, right? ;)

Have a good night, alltogether!

I have something very similar... the Oticon Ria 2 and it works well. Fortunately, it only cost me $200 after insurance. 3K EUR is pretty crazy... so. many. spaceships.

grog is actually a bit more the hot water and rum, it had lime juice and sugar. a lot of times it was the only way sailors would get any vitamin c to help prevent scurvy.

Generally, you are right. Though the first "grogs" where only water and rum, within sailing history it is noted that it were served twice a day with some sugar and lime: http://www.contemplator.com/history/grog.html

Grown up in the north of Germany I can tell that Grog here was served on cold winter days, and it only was water plus rum. Those who needed a "kick" put sugar in it. The German sayin' is "Rum muss, Zucker darf, Wasser kann" which means like "Rum is a must, sugar maybe, water if need be".

Anyway, good morning alltogether! Sun is shining and this weekend 30°C are pronounced, yay!

Have a nice working day or evening or whatever - just make sure to come on over here, take a seat and a coffee ;) :D

Good morning everyone, Sun is shining, weather is sweet and I'm stuck inside blowing stuff up in a Calorimeter!

Did get some news about my house purchase though, could be looking at moving in late June/early July, will be great to finally stop renting and get my food on the property ladder, finally be able to make my home my own!

Of course there's the mortgage, and the fact that I'm moving across the country far enough that I'll have to leave my job, which isn't a great combo, but luckily my Fiancée is paid twice as much as me so if needs be we can survive just on her income. But I may not be buying any spaceships for a while!

House purchase sounds great! But the first ten years are hard, when the mortgage is high and additional purchases are bombing the banking account (as an example we had to buy a new home heating installation two years after purchasing the house, which definitely was not planned. But the external oil tank was leacky and after lots of discussions and offers we decided to install a complete new, gas based heating system - and therefore had to take out another loan. And after that, our 18 years old car collided which then meant to take out a third load for a new (used) car).
Long story short: hold you funds together, don't buy spaceship - have a good time with and in your own house :)

Due in no small part to my father's inheritance we are actually getting away with quite a small mortgage for the moment. So the payments aren't too bad, but still we are holding back more money than our mortgage advisor things we should as we have a wedding to pay for next year and neither off us are comfortable not having money in our savings accounts! It would take quite a disaster to knock us out financially, and hopefully we are covered with insurance for any of those kind of disasters :)

Scary to think how much money we are spending since we are moving near to London, but it'll be worth it!

I'll try to make do with only a Tali, Vanguard, avenger and gladius... for a while at least!

Hmmm.....if only you knew a Plumber/Gasfitter.

This is where being a tradie makes you everyones best friend when things break. I do however burst everyones bubble and decline as I dont do cash work on the side. Not only do I get trade cost price for everything I have no labor charge either. Needs to be some bonus to my job.

Retail is for chumps and youd have a heart attack if you knew the difference between cost and retail. ;) Shhh....trade secret!

I've worked in the textiles industrie and currently working for a huge German telecommunications group... I think this topic you'll find in every branch: unbelievable low production costs plus production profit. And then there are: boxing, shipping, insurance cost, major distributor profit, retailer profit; plus expenses for rental, personnel, energy etc. pp. And suddenly your sports shoe, which initially costs 1,50 Dollar, has to be sold for 200 bucks. Brave new world ;)
