Congrats, I was in the same position I first backed in... About 2015? But didn't have a machine that could play the game until it must have been 2017? Can't remember exactly when but it was a couple of years.
Pro tip: Make sure to read the key functions befor you go inside the game to play. I didn't, fist thing I did was sit on the toilet in my Constillation and couldn't get off because I didn't know at that point you had to press and HOLD 'F' to get up. I had to log off and go ask how on the official RSI forum.
"Hi guys, just got in game, how do you get off the can? I keep getting stuck!"
I believe the button is now 'Y'.

Welcome back! Once you get settled in, get into Discord and folks might be able to help you navigate around, and not get stuck on or in the can with your spacesuit on.
