That caused me to check for updates... Phew, I'm safe.
My AVG free says I've only got 4 days left before I have to decide whether to buy it... Looks like I'm moving on to the next free option on Wednesday :-)

I have 3 devices that still use AVG Free... all that happened is it started doing this interrupt for adware but its still working. I'm finding the adware incredibly annoying though so might check out TotalAV on those devices. No clue if it has adware yet.

I use not free McAfee for work...

That sucks to hear, but I do understand nothing in this world is for free and I begrudgingly accept they gotta make a dime somehow but learning their messaging is intended to panic me into a snap choice hasn't impressed. I used to get Norton in the sales for £20 a year. Beats the £50+ they used to charge for it and as good as AVG probably is for free it's probably not as good as Norton at an identical price...

I think my main option might be to go back to using a Linux distro. I only had to go for antivirus as my new shitposting machine had windows pre-installed and I was too lazy to do something about it. I have put nothing on my machine which is not available on the Ubuntu app repository except for the official SD card formatter software. Might dual boot for a few months and see how often I need the 'big' OS.

I'm happy with whatever OS i'm using some have benefits over others but I'm strictly an end user.

Nothing wrong with Linux, especially Ubuntu. You can also use Raspberry PI OS on desktop or laptops nowadays. I love Linux. And Arduino but that's another story.
