So having recently been lured back to star citizen, and since i now have a nice 3D printer, i have been looking up simpits for the last many days to gather inspiration and ideas.

And i am thinking i want to in the end have a small room simulator. But since extruded aluminum is so expensive here, i was thinking about wooden skeleton and then 3d printing some nice surfaces on the inside to make it look like a futuristic spaceship.

(also been looking into joysticks and all sorts of other stuff)

But here's my quick test print of a 225mm x 225mm plate. It is by no means the finished product, it's more a test of seeing the surface finish and the rigidity of it.

Next step i'm thinking about making some square stackable boxes, that you can click on a plate like this. Need to figure out the click system though, and how to do curved top surfaces too (though that's going to be near impossible with the same finish though.)

Are you looking to create a simpod?? I like the idea but man, that's a lot of printing! I've been toying with a similar idea for an Avenger Titan cockpit, and a 3D printer could go a long way toward recreating that look.

For sticks, here's my incredibly strong endorsement of Virpil. Running their Constellation Alpha sticks on original WarBRD bases, their build quality is superb and the control provided is a joy to experience. Especially with the view from the new Zeus ships! Combined with the Tobii eyetracker, I can and have spent hours doing nothing more than flying around sightseeing.

yep i'm testing out things to figure out if a simpod would be good and what i would like in it...

been eyeing the VKB ones myself, on a limited budget. But yeah if i had unlimited cash i would just go virpil... :D

haven't tried the new zeus, so guess it's a view i need to try.

not sure how good the eye tracker is with super ultrawide gaming... but it's one thing i would also love to have.

What i do have is a super ultrawide, and extra monitors. Thinking of doing a sort of MISC window, slim but wide.

And build my own button boxes, use the 3 stream decks i have, and some tablets and phones with gameglass...

but looking at what extruded aluminum costs to make just a small simrig, i can probably print a cover for the entire enterior for less than that... :D

Tobii says 27 in, but I've run mine on a 34 with no issues at all. There is a limit to how far you can turn your head before the sensors lose tracking on your eyeballs, but it's far outside a normal monitor. I have a 48" desk and can look to either edge of it without breaking track. Also, it's a keybind to enable/disable, and I put that on my sticks for quick access.

VKB has a good rep. I have no personal experience with them but there are others here that have spoken highly.

How well is gameglass working now? I experimented with it and was not satisfied at all with the latency. Mind you, this was some time back. There is another option called Gametouch controller that is on my to-do list to check out.

Looking forward to seeing what you decide, and how it develops :)
