Anyone planning on organizing a commerce or cargo division? I mean there is no better way to drink some brewskies while these fancy pants auto pilot computers fly for the overly inebriated captains.

Do we not already have one? I'd been thinking about this, what with all the other organizing that's been happening...

Edit: Huh. Seems like its been talked about, but never been organized. Lemme see what I can do.
Double secret edit:

It’s cold hard ‘verse out there, and a pilot’s gotta hang tough to make it. Having a partner at your back can be the difference between making out like a bandit, and eating catfood for the next week.

TEST Cargo Wing

The idea of this group is to provide support and organization to all those interested in moving things from one end to another. Whether you’ve got the itch to be a small independent trader looking for the newest score, or if you prefer to convoy with allies and escorts, you’ve got a spot here.

I envision a few groups within the hauling wing:

Solo traders: you don’t want to be told what to do, and that’s fine. But just because you’re flying lonely out there, doesn’t mean you can’t coordinate with other truckers. Share info on safe and profitable routes, and give a heads up to your fellow cargo haulers.

Organized Convoys: Sometimes, you run across those jobs that you just can’t handle alone. Time sensitive cargos that you won’t be able to shuttle in over multiple runs, or routes through dangerous sectors of lawless space with trigger-happy pirates just aching to leave you poor and hungry. Or maybe you just get bored and want to fly with your friends. Whatever the case, form up a group, grab a few escorts, and hit the spacelanes.

TEST shipping: Our mining wing already has at least half a dozen independently owned Orions, plus the org owns two as well. That’s gonna be a lot of raw material that needs moving. In addition, in whatever territories we decide to claim as our own, we’re going to want to make sure we keep it well stocked. We’d

Combat Resupply: Want to get in to a combat zone, but maybe not the best dogfighter in the world? Or maybe your Hornet’s in the shop after that last dogfight, and you’re lacking a dogfighter. Our pilots will need fuel, ammo, and other supplies to keep flying. Go in hot, dump your load fast, and GTFO.

Standard disclaimer: This is an unofficial group, put together to explore interest in cargo hauling in the PU. We’re still a year or more away from the actual game launch, so of course, tons of stuff is still subject to change.

I approve of this! I'll throw my Aquila, Starfarer, and Banu Merchantman into the mix here.

When I'm not busy exploring or mining, I shall commit by Banu Merchantman to hauling here.
Although I might melt the anniversary BMM for the LTI Hull-C later on, either way both are big haulers.

I will happily help coordinate distribution efforts. May not have anything bigger than a Freelancer by launch... maybe caterpillar, But my specialty is distribution. Quite literally. I'm working on a degree in supply chain management at UWM.

That sounds great, and yeah not all cargo for transport are necessarily going to be big.
We might have to smuggle some goods into areas, or even transport important documents asap.
I'm sure there are many benefits for having a smaller hauler, for example; able to enter smaller wormholes for direct travel, more difficult for pirates to catch, and requiring much less operating costs.

Exactly, I was thinking of different roles for each of my vessels.

For my Merchantman, that's going to be my main hauler. Just a fuckton of empty cargo holds, big engines, and not too much else.

For my Phoenix? Luxury transport, and discreet transportation of cargo that would bring unwanted questions from the authorities.

My Retaliator, when it's not rigged for breaking the dreams of Idris pilots, will be my heavy blockade runner. Blasting past enemy lines with all 5 turrets blazing away, goods securely tucked into the torpedo bay.

I've looked at purchasing other ships but for me I just want to work my way up, starting small in my aurora ending up in a gigantic hauler, all in game.

Wisco in the haus! I'm originally from the Milwaukee area but am now in Chicago.

Back to the point of the thread though, I have a Freelancer MAX that I was planning on doing some space trucking with when I wasn't patching up dead/dying Yellow Jackets (our marine branch if you're unfamiliar with them). I'd be down for some organized trucking if there's some cash money to make. See you guys out there in the spacelanes!

Hopefully this group can assist the mining group as well. Since we have like umpteen Orions, we're gonna need a lot of hauling support to shuttle resources back to station so they can all stay on the rock and get that sweet sweet ore.

I totally plan on helping. I feel like the miners can cut us in for a sweet slice of profits in exchange for taking care of all their hauling.

Snatching this idea up from Beef Satsquatch, since he had a post up that he deleted just now.

I am open to suggestions on what to put in the yellow circle. :D

NKato, what Squaeker says is correct, true, and 100% correct.
