The gas tanks on the Starfarer are big. I mean really big. I mean potential Mother Of All Bombs delivery system big.

Now MOABs are a thing with the Crusader Hercules concept, I look at the the picture of the moab and the Starfarers gas tanks, and I wonder to myself... I see 6 removable tanks and 2 fixed ones. Those six tanks... You could pull them out and mount 6 MOABs in there - maybe even more depending on the bombs eventual size... The ship wouldn't be a fighter but it'd be one monster of a bomber...

What do we think? Plan?

You also have all that cargo space in the back, with a nice ramp to roll things down. Going to depend on the mechanics whether or not you can do that. I'd like to think we have a little room for ship role improvisation, So plan, maybe?

Problem is of course, theorycrafting is really just wishful thinking at this stage.

Ah, the best kind of thinking in a Pre-Alpha. Gives the Devs ideas. Good point on the cargo bay, you'd get one or two in there too.

Probably will never happen as the starfarer's primary mission is fueling.
An Auroras primary mission is not blocking out the sun, but still we will prevail :)

I get what you mean, they gotta lock in some constraints somewhere - but when I saw that big ol' bomb and those external tanks I was like "It just makes sense".

Can we just load up a Hull-E with MOABS for fleet combat, escort it to the center of the battle space, get it rolling really fast and release them all? OR... how about just getting relatively close in low orbit over a target with the Hull-E and just letting them loose and gravity doing the rest? HOW ABOUT.... Kamakaze Hull-E's? How about a fleet of them.

Now I hope mines are a thing. You can't get into a planet without crossing a barrier of mines (kinda like ship mines in the water, but in space. Space mines). We need a mine layer.

CIG plz.

I like theorycrafting ;)

As much as this is a cool idea, I am much more a fan of sitting from space and launching 4 size 10 Kinetic bombardment devices (KBD) from my Polaris. Where a modern MOAB has a blast yield of "11 tons TNT" were as KBD "In the case of the system mentioned in the 2003 Air Force report above, a 6.1 m × 0.3 m tungsten cylinder impacting at Mach 10 has a kinetic energy equivalent to approximately 11.5 tons of TNT (or 7.2 tons of dynamite)." the airforce determined it was not worth the price because of the cost to get the weapon into space, but if you are already in space...

Edit: oh and close support? I think a Hammer Head will be better, in part because of it's weapon placements are so well designed, 5/6 weapons will be able to fire if it's movie parallel to the ground.

When I first saw the downward view cockpit on the hammer I thought that ship was specifically designed for air to ground...

I think it will be amazing for Air-to-Ground support, as well as any patrol mission. or any time it has to fight under its weight class.

Also what I see in my mind every time I talk about the Hammerhead...

looks good on paper, terrible idea when implemented.
