You're awesome. Thanks Marc.
I did my first Gemini ICC missions last sunday with 3 escorts and managed to complete them all. Even the landing without peeking with F4 went smooth. I expected some fireworks at the landing, fully manual. My escorts tried to make me nervous by commenting that I had a lot spectators, but even that didn't help..... ok, i had to peek because they said that my left skids weren't on the pad.
What a whale!!!!! I didn't dare to go with her to. Cryo Astro to refuel, but i had enough fuel for one trip.

I even tried to fight with it, using the trackir for the gimballed front guns, works fine, as long as you fly straight. If you try to make a "tight" turn with full yaw, strafe, and boost, the complete gimball control gets messed up, so the escorts were doing a good job. I expected more, but the Gemini only spawns 2 - 3 light pirate fighters. One huge advantage, while engaging target, 10k - 20k away from the escorts you can track which escort gets chased by which pirate. The Gemini pilot can call threats for the escorts.

That's freaking neat. So that gives you a bit of an idea what having a command and control ship would be like.

It gives me an idea on how a wing should work. The escorts were 2 Buccs and one Vanguard. The Vanguard always got targeted by Gladius. One goes in, getting targeted by the Gladius and 350R, the others watch the back of the first and take care of the Gladius and 350R targeting the first guy.

You need to set priorities. First target the Gladius, then 350R, Sabre, Aurora and last Cutlass. If I go into multiple pirates, I first check which fighters are present. Multiple Gladius and 350R means that if you target one, the others will be dangerous, they will wreck you with their gimballed ballistics. The Sabre is a missile boat, the Auroras are small and slow, the Cutlass needs to be shot at until one engine falls of, then zero speed and keep pounding it. You can't do that while other fighters are around.

Good Lord, how the fleets have changed now, haha
I read through some of this thread, and have an observation, and a question. The observation is that the role or our perception of some ships seems to have evolved somewhat, like
and a Taurus to do all my space hauling and bum kicking if i have to.
I can't currently fathom using a Taurus to do much bum kicking. The thing turns like a beached whale.

The question is: Do threads ever just die, in Test Squadron? NO that wasn't it. The real question is, just for comparison, what does your fleet look like now?

Oh, I still think the Taurus will be able to surprise. It's a hollow tube when not full of cargo - the engines and thrusters will be set up for heavy loads so when empty I hope it to be just nimble enough to be able to fit some fixed S5's... 4 S5's and just nimble enough to keep a Hornet in its sights.... Yeah, it'll be goooood....
