Would it be too early to say that I told you guys that Staggered Development wasn't some magic bullet that will give the devs more time (as in man hours) by doubling the length between the updates if you at the same time halve the team size, and what they really needed to do was to recognize their actual velocity and only promise to deliver the amount of work they actually can?

And I'm not saying that staggered development would be totally useless, mind you. There could be some improved efficiency there, but hardly on the scale that would fix everything without addressing other problems, such as CIGs habit of over promising every single patch cycle. In my opinion, it would be better to under promise and over deliver than over promise and under deliver.

I think this is a ploy and the Carrack is ready they just want to surprise everyone during citizencon by saying oh and btw poof here it is.
As 200% fun that would be, and just revenge for the whole "GIB CARROT" thing, it'd be kinda like this GIF:

So wait, when it says Q4 2019 ok maybe it doesn't say CitizenCon but it sure as hell doesn't say Q1 2020 either, ships to be implemented into the game - Carrack that's not flight ready? lmao I am pretty sure "implementing" a ship into the game means it will be flyable as it says on every other section of the roadmap under ships and vehicles?? Please correct me if I am wrong, and if it wasn't the "norm" why did Chris Roberts apologize for it not being ready?

Ya I get it, it didn't say Nov 23rd etc.... but it lists all 3 of those vehicles being implemented into the game in Q4 2019 not Jan, not Feb and not March of 2020, that is 100% failure to deliver and missing their deadline.

I also think we will see more of this, I think they can make more $$ by spreading out ships that are done rather than 3-4 ships at a time.

If you mean missed the deadline as set out in the roadmap, there are no deadlines on the roadmap. It's a development schedule with intended completion dates as pulled from the studios own work-management software. On the Roadmap page there is a section to the left with some caveats which I really think you'd feel better for reading:

Linked directly to the caveats section, hope that helps 🙂

Im a little confused, maybe its because I have been kinda afk for a while.

The last roadmap (Nov 15th) showed this:

Maybe its my eyes, but it says Carrack 45%

That means there is no way the Carrack is going to be flyable by tomorrow.

Am I missing something? Why is everybody shocked and surprised in this thread?

Personally, I'm just happy that we got to see more of the Carrack as well as had the Pisces released. I've never had a reason to like Feb ... until now. So I've got no problem waiting a bit longer as I know that the Dev's will do their best to make the finished version of the Carrack be as awesome as possible.

One can hope. But, if it doesn't happen, *shrug*. Such is life. No sense the community getting up in arms. It's just a game. Haha
Says the Master or Tree Jacking after losing both arms because he was awesome enough to show how he could open beer bottles with the blade of his axe. Unfortunately, he'd enjoyed a few cases before that last attempt.

But thats my point here.

Nowhere was it said that the Carrack was going to be flight ready at Citizencon.
It was always 3.8, did I sit on the edge of my seat for a maybe citizencon release? I won't said that I didn't but again it was always 3.8

I was hoping for January since they had a month and half to work on still.

Kinda thinking that they have to finish a few big items that will allow other items to fall in place faster.

e.i. going from graybox to skinning the whole ship and they were waiting on the art team to finishing graphics.

I get it, nothings set it stone, its not unusual in this game for sure.... but you have 3 ships slated for "implementation" in Q4 2019 and now not a single one is going to make that deadline, I could see if it was JUST the Carrack lol but none of them? And now their slated for separate release dates 1 each month? Looks like some sort of money grab to me. Lets face it they have the anniversary coming which always rakes in $$ why not hold off on the Carrack till after that? It will rake in more money if you release it after the anniversary its pretty obvious to me anyways.

Also as they said in the Caveat "If there is any slip in our quarterly goals, this will push out for the project’s end date." every time they miss a deadline on that road map it extends the game, they say this in their own caveat, I just hope this doesn't become a habit this isn't the first goal they have missed and I seriously doubt SQ42 makes their initial release date, but we will see lol. Again I will stick with my original prediction, they will not make a ton of $$ on SQ42 and sell off another chunk so they can finish the game. Just my prediction mind you!! :P

That being said I did enjoy parts of the Demo, not all of it, some of it was slow but overall another success even with all the hiccups, some of the other panels were pretty cool as well I always enjoy the lore makers guide personally.

I'm glad the Caveats helped, obviously they have not changed the way you feel, because that's how you are feeling and no one will be able to change that, however I hope that information has been able to put some context on the things you are feeling unhappy about.

I am not attempting to disagree with you, however would like to highlight some of your additional comments and information from the caveats which might help you understand what the roadmap and the dates on it are about:

I get it, nothings set it stone...
A date in the roadmap setting is not quite the same as setting a launch date and aiming for it, the following from the Caveats allude to this:

"...we will ALWAYS extend timelines or re-do features and content if we do not feel they are up to our standards."

"...the data found on this page is pulled directly from JIRA, our internal database that we are using to plan and manage the project..."

"All estimates are based on our knowledge and experience but there are many aspects of game development that are impossible to predict because they literally cover uncharted territory. You will see the same estimates we use in our internal planning, but it is important to understand that in many cases (especially with groundbreaking engineering tasks) these estimates are often subject to change due to unforeseen complexity in implementing features."

"Internal schedules, the ones you will now be privy to, tend to have aggressive dates. This helps to help the team focus and scope their tasks, especially in the case of tech development. Every team needs target dates, so you may see dates adjust when we get more accurate information and understanding of what’s needed to be completed."

"...we also know that it’s possible for a single bug to cause a delay of days or weeks when a hundred others might be fixed instantly."

I guess my point is the way the delay was announced and then handled, I saw the demo and the Carrack looked pretty well done to me, why the 2 to 3 month delay? Also not just 1 of the ships slated for Q4 but all 3 were delayed and then spread out in 1 month intervals, I don't buy it personally, I think there is alternate reasoning behind it, my first guess is releasing a ship like the Carrack pre anniversary wouldn't see as much $$ raked is as it would dropping it after the anniversary sale.

I have been gaming online since the late 80s early 90s, I have been a part of countless alpha and beta games I have seen so many things happen in this forum of creation I just tend to go with my gut feelings, something was off to me about this and that's just how I am. It wouldn't surprise me when the Carrack launches in Feb which is a safe bet because I think its already done or close to it lol, it turns out to be one of the highest grossing ships sold to date.
