Why do you folks act like this is proprietary. Its not... you can get the per capita with a click of the button. Anyone, could do it, including my dad.
I'm still not sure what you're trying to say? You linked some numbers about per 100k deaths, numbers you yourself say we have access to. What is your point in highlighting said numbers?

My point is that you are calling them idiots, 3 months in... what if this last years and 90% of the Sweden population has been exposed (antibodies) and Canada only has 10% of its population with Antibodies. A wave hits in 2022, that is the same virus. Should Sweden laugh at you for your pain, NO. There are people smarter than all of us fixing this problem, even though the methods may differ.

Let me do this in my head (3 beers in). Sweden has around 10 million people and ~4k have died. Canada has around 35 million with 6k deaths. Let me swag this... hold on to your pants

10/30 = 3
I expect 3 time the death of Canada to the deaths of Sweden. (~3.2 or something)

so... 3x4 = 12k if Sweden had the same population as Canada.

I know... "Tom, your making my point, man!"

or I would expect 2x3 = 6k

So they (sweden) have a higher death rate... DUH... 10 million people with 3.8k death vs Canada at 35 million with 6k deaths. 10/30 = 3 (highly scientific), we know that anything over 2k deaths in Sweden exceeds Canada rate... so Sweden has a higher death rate... is it significant? Not enough info to make a good case.

If I were a threat analyst for the government of the United States, I would say this was a direct attack to the US.

Guess my dad is smarter than you - I am just teasing because I said my dad could figure it out.

It's just getting hold of that deaths over average data, I've been searching for it for Colorado for a few days now and I just can't find it anywhere. I can find the average for last year, the last five years, but I can't find weekly/monthly registered deaths for 2020 anywhere. I don't think they do them...?

I've also temporarily stopped bothering looking at Colorado info as they changed the count from "Died with COVID" to "Died from COVID" last friday which makes it farly irrelevant until they lock down that metric and decide how they are going to analyse it going forward.

If you counted deaths from HIV/AIDS the same way, the total death rate would be 0% as it weakens the immune system to the point it can't counter other conditions which then kill the victim, such as pneumonia etc.
considering at least one person died of alcohol poisoning that had the virus and was counted initially as a COVID-19 death, then yes, I think they should look at the metric. However, you do need to include those that died to something related to COVID-19, even if it wasn't the virus or the immune reaction directly.

That said, how many without the disease have died from something they might have been saved from before due to the additional time needed for first responders to actually start treatments? How many didn't go to a doctor or ER when they should have because they were afraid of catching it and died as a result? Should they be counted as pandemic deaths? An argument can be made for yes.

That's the problem, it's not just a hard and fast number, but one that can be manipulated by media, politicians, and even scientists. While MANY people are just wanting to do help out and dp what is "right", there are varying ideas of what is "right", and what one person thinks is right, is not what another thinks is right, and nigher one is necessarily wrong or bad.

I don't think anyone here is calling Swedes 'idiots'. I mean maybe @Montoya is because some Swedish blonde turned him down in a past but I don't think the rest of us are!

All jokes aside, we're just not sure that Sweden's 'Open' policy has proved CONCLUSIVELY that it's the right strategy to deal with Covid19. There's even rumblings within Sweden that this isn't the right policy to pursue and that it isn't enough to build up herd immunity. The link that I highlighted is from a Conservative site mind you before you go off about media biases.

I also don't understand why you're defending Sweden's approach to Covid19 like your country's honor depends on it. Are you trying to say that the US should or can replicate the Swedish model?

What makes your method superior 3 months in. I am defending them against you folks because you are like George Bush... mishun accomplished speech. You are not superior (i know you do not think you are) and neither is your solution at this point.

What method 3 months in? lol

Solutions? I'm not offering any solutions haha. If I'm smart enough to do that, I'll be a public health official and not some random dude sparring online with other random dudes.

What I do think is that the Swedish model is not the CONCLUSIVE strategy to deal with Covid19. Notice how there aren't that many Western countries talking about 'herd immunity' anymore. PM Boris Johnson for one and the Tories in the UK have completely stopped talking about that. Even if you wanna replicate what Sweden is doing, most countries in the world don't have the unique characteristics to do so (Sparsely populated, strong social safety net, strong public health care, civic minded population, etc).

Honestly all this talk about Sweden is pointless. If you're gonna look at 'herd immunity' you should look at poorer countries like India and Ecuador. Countries that realistically can't exercise social distancing among their population. Even then India did lock down the country (to devastating results to the poor) for a short period of time.
