b. the amounts are limited, the first one or 2 players who get to the terminal and buy "win" the rest are out of luck
This was the case in X2 which is the main game I played trade in, but the difference there was stock levels were updated in real time. You'd be watching the trading console looong before you even had the destination station on scanners, and of course no having to waste 15 minutes playing hide and seek running to a trading console hidden somewhere on a station you have never been to before was a massive help too.

Heck there was even a computer modification which would skip the tedious docking requirement which I once used to beat an NPC to market. Although he got in the station first right in front of my nose, I overtook him while he was landing and made the sale.

Trade is 10% exciting finding/getting the best buying/selling price, and 90% tedium moving the damned boxes. The more obstacles put in a players path the more that becomes 8%/92%, then 5%/95%, then 2%/98%...

I honestly don't know how they can make the magic happen, I only had fun in SC trading by finding a good trade route and grinding it until that route got nerfed.

Early days yet, still a long way to go.

My suggestion in 3.13 live feedback thread at spectrum, if anyone is interested
It's probably not perfect, but I'm going to claim it'd be a step in the right direction.
I can't log in using this computer, but I like that at least as a starting point. The other thing I like is the idea of everyone involved as shared partners. That way, you set the risk/rewards as a group, but the motivation of everyone is to protect the cargo.

I have a feeling that they are not really looking to balance trade until they bring online Quantum as its going to more dynamically update the markets. The overage/underage is an interesting idea but i think they still need to have the ability for traders to see the current markets on their mobiglass or ship computer even if it requires being in range of a comm array. Would be interesting if markets outside of a system have a time dilation factor so that you see the market of systems further away what they where hours or days ago but not sure that would work as players would just start to utilize outside systems as we currently do for possible trade route planning.

Either way I honestly do not see them do much to trading until they start to bring online Quantum which seems to be by the end of the year given the ramping up of information and developers being assigned to it. Once they do i imagine they will start to balance each of the game play loops profit per unit of time to fall in line with how fast they want players to generate wealth at each tier as well as the perceived risk/reward metric.

Until then i have a feeling trading is going to be a poor way to make cash.

I've been wondering what they're thinking for a while now too. They've done the same kind of thing with mining, at least with the Prospector or MOLE. You won't likely loose your shirt all in one go, but you can lose money fairly quickly. 30K's are the worst, you lose more to those than to unwanted combat. You cannot possibly make enough to pay an escort either, not when he can make 10 times what you earn in an hour. It's been a little disheartening, but it's still a little fun too. What I do is just do a little trading, and a little mining to break up the monotony until more interesting game play comes into the game. Forget high ticket items, they're just an invitation to lose money. I flew 4 or 5 trade runs with the C2 and M2 so far, that's all I'm going to do until it's a little more balanced - and I can afford to share some of the profit with others. Right now, anyone who flies with me is going to be doing it for fun, cuz I'm not earning much more than break even on a great day. I've also reduced the number of hours I play just so I don't get disappointed in the game.
I saw this posted on reddit...areas in Aaron's Halo that are places to investigate for mining...I'd rather watch paint dry than Prospector mine, but I've been meaning to do this for ages and haven't ever gotten around to it. Maybe if the new commodities don't pan out, I'll be trying this.

Yeah. Prospector mining is for when you want to spend an hour or two in an MMO without bothering with anyone. I wish I could avoid it, but trade hasn't been great and whenever I do combat for more than a few minutes, I get a massive headache. It doesn't last long but I still would rather avoid it

Do you know whether you also get an headache if you're in the turret for combat?

Hm. I don't know, I haven't tried turrets for a couple years.
Turrets have been heavily changed over the past couple years, so might be worth giving it a try.
Ships like the Cutlass Black and Hurricane are both sufficient to handle up ERT bounty missions with appropriate loadouts, add in someone in the turret and they should roll these missions much more easily.
So hopefully you either have a decent fighter with a turret or friends that play regularly that do, and that turret combat doesn't also cause you headaches, so you can enjoy that game play as well.

Good point, and don't forget even the Super Hornet and any Vanguard are that much deadlier with a turret gunner. I think that putting in some distortion weapons in the turret really complements having regular energy guns at the pilots control.

It goes without saying that a larger ship, such as a Starfarer, Caterpillar, Connie, or even C2 now are great with a turret gunner! Just don't bother with a Freelancer's turrets, those are pretty worthless, lol

Hurc has become my fav ship at the moment. Do a few Monitor missions followed up by loading the C2 with fireworks and taking them to New Babbage for some scratch$$....Only the selling price in the commodity updates never matches the terminal price for the understock location in my case. :wut: May be a glitch but no matter how long I wait or new price update in the journal I always get about $1 less than the posted understock buy price in the journal...Still making money but perhaps its time to try something else in the hull.:like:
Not a single 30k so far :glorious:
