Personally I think any divisions should be really thought about, and not just created on the fly.

But don't start cutting up a beautiful cake before its cooked. Because I like cake.
This is the plan. The people making these divisions want them to work. The founders know they may or may not be the leaders of that group, they want to organize and set it up into something they themselves would be willing to partake in.

For example I started up our marine/fighter division. I started it knowing I might or might not be leading it, so my only goal was to make it into something I would love to be a part of by listening to the what the community playing this style wants to see and then implement it as best as possible.

Sorry for the long post, I like cake too.

This kind of sounds interesting to me, would love to see some that I could be a part of (plan on have many hobbies in this game). I have already been organizing a small group for exploration could be cool to find others that want to work with us or possibly find a group that we could join. Anyway sounds like a great way to find others you share interests with!

EDIT: here's a list of categories that should have squads, and no double-redundancies. I'll also include the names of squads that have already filled these particular categories.

List of Squad Interest Threads by Category
Since there is already The Yellow Jackets, that has in its roles, Fighter Squad/Marine Squad, i would assume a Sole Marine Squad would still be accepted as complete dedicated on foot ground operations? If so i would be interested in organizing one if its possible.

Since the thread has been revived, i as well shall revive a post from 2014.

There is no smuggling. I'd love to form the subvision.

If I may contribute my two cents, I am quite new here at Test but had extensive experience with other social games, being part of an organized awesome community like this is going to be on the PU.

I have been part of a clan with roughly 1k members and there were a lot of subdivisions in it, each player was assigned to a brigade and each brigade had a forum section, one leader and two to three sergeants, the purpose of this subdivision is that it is very rough for a single person to manage and provide supporte for more than some dozens of players. There were also some offices where you could pursue a specialization, a war, intelligence, internal affairs, foreign affairs officer, but you still had a brigade and reported to your brigade leader.

I am not saying this is the way to go, but from my experience this structure provided a very good player experience for the following reasons:

1 - As soon as I joined the team I had one point of contact with whom I developed a relationship, he tutored me from the very basics to advance strategy to improve my gameplay, recommended me for promotions, etc... This was both rewarding from the learning perspective and on a personal level.

2 - Each brigade leader and their sergeants cared for their crew, knew each of them individually and the brigade members loved them and looked up to them as great leaders much better than the other brigades had

3 - We were pretty awesome, kickass alliance and rarely got into conflict because the others were afraid of us, therefore a healthy competition between brigades made for things more exciting, where we always tried to be just a little better for any goal that the leadership set for the alliance.

4 - The specialties of players did not separate them in groups, we were divided equally among the brigades making for a varied group where we learned about different trades with each other, but by the time we were mature enough we could apply for an office where we were expected to have a higher commitment and produce some kind of work depending on the specialty we chose, but we still were a part of our original brigade. When I held a position in the office of internal affairs and afterwards war, it was really satisfying the feeling that i was contributing to make my alliance even better.

5 - It was fun going to the other brigade forum sections and teasing them :)

Oh about choosing the people for each position, I suppose we have some kind of leadership already, let them choose who they trust and know to occupy the positions, if its not working they replace it.. whoever deserves it naturally sticks out..

At the time we put that together, it was originally going to be only ground FPS and support (i.e gunships/medics), was suggested by leadership that we include dogfighters as well. It was said the issue will be revisited when things get closer to PU release, and if needed branch them into two separate divisions.

Personally I think it should be two separate groups, but that's just me.

As of right now none of these groups are "official" and are only for interest. Once org 2.0 drops leadership will be making the groups official.
