. . .that posting on this subject will get your thread locked down by our amazing monitors. Hence, giving the subject of climate change its own thread is far better than polluting an existing one.

So, on Climate Change, or as it used to be called, Anthropogenic Global Warming. AGW was the preferred term in the 90’s when I was TAing a class at PSU in Environmental Ethics. Global Warming was one of the hot button environmentalist issues of that time. This is back when environmentalism meant more than banning plastic straws only to have paper lids replaced with plastic. Once upon a time sane and sober people cared about the environment. No longer. Now everyone pretends to know and care, but it is only pretense. Real environmentalism has gone by the wayside, as it’s been replaced by religious fervor, vacant claims and fear-mongering. As example of our detachment to environmentalist issues, I defy anyone here to demonstrate some handy facility with the actual facts of climate change. I’ll be pleasantly surprised. Tell me what you know about Climategate, or how much CO2 is too much CO2, or what is the “hockey stick” argument. Tell me anything resembling science. You’ve had forty years to make sense of the issue, yet despite most have had all their adult lives to learn about what they present as urgent and important, 99/100 people don’t actually know anything. It’s just easier to regurgitate what you’ve been told and pretend zealotry is earnest effort.

Back in the day, we fought over real issues. We replaced Freon refrigerant with something that wasn’t destroying the ozone layer. We replaced leaded gas with unleaded. We got rid of leaded paint. We created catalytic converters to stop the sulfuric acid coming from cars decimating our forests. We stopped DDT killing Eagles, and greedy lumber companies chopping down the last of the most ancient trees. We all but ended starvation—globally. We eliminated dozens of diseases. We all but stopped the harvesting of whales, and created the Clean Air and Water Acts, and the Toxic Cleanup Superfund, and we Americans basically led the way toward coping appropriately with the worst of the chemical revolution. We stepped up and safeguarded the planet.

You young people dropped the ball. You stopped getting science degrees and started misrepresenting science like religious zealots. All the scientists left GreenPeace because it decided it’s religious dogma mattered more than science and common sense.

So here’s what I know. First hand, having been a devoted environmentalist for fifty years, who actually has the science skills and experience to judge, I know this take by Dr Lindzen is the most accurate and best take on this subject you’ll ever find. Experience dictates that 97% of all scientists agree with whomever the fuck is paying them. The last 3% are like Lindzen—they tell the truth.

The more I learn about things, the more I realize that I'm way behind the learning curve on almost everything.

This being said, in regards of climate change, from my minuscule perspective, weather fluctuates over the course of each year through the seasons & it is known that in Texas, if you don't like the weather, wait 5 min & it'll change slightly to some degree or another. If my post about this gets me locked, oops, I was stating the obvious to myself, similar to the char of Robin Williams from Good Morning Vietnam when giving his weather forecast telling his listeners that if they want to know what the weather is like outside, to open a window.

"ShadowReaper",(dorky screen name btw. Super HIGH-Speed LOW-Drag. I bet you're a REAL hit with the ladies) The fact that YOUR sources don't jive with ANY OTHER SOURCES does not mean the rest of the world is lying. It means that you are an impressionable goober who has the critical thinking skills of sodomized lemur. You think you are part of some exclusive club that knows the TRUTH about things when the Truth you are sold is cooked up by a single odious think-tank funded by hyper-religious nutters who would like to see the united states turn into the Handmaid's tale. Religion is dead. Get over it. We don't care about your God and we don't want his ass in our classrooms. Your opinions are not only bad, they aren't even your OWN. Once again, the parrot accuses others of a lack of thinking.

The thing that makes me different than you is the fact that I understand that the truth generally exists somewhere in the middle of reported extremes. I have no information master, like you do, because I diversify my media consumption. I could rage-watch all the youtube channels that are tailor made to agree with what I already think (Like you seem to do) OR I could pursue several viewpoints on each issue before forming any solid opinions on things. If there is one thing I have learned in life it is the fact that the people you meet with the stiffest resolve are also the folks with the narrowest viewpoint. All I am saying is that you should try taking your blinders off and attempt to watch something that you might not agree with out of the gate. View an episode of John Oliver that covers a topic that interests you. I guarantee that you will learn something new that might just effect how you see that topic. And if that's not your thing, at least take a look at a news aggregator like Ground News so you can see the same story spun three different ways for three different audiences. Do that for a while and you will learn to spot the bullshit. From ALL sides. And for the love of all that is holy: Stop linking videos. If I wanted to see youtuber's opinions on things I would go watch youtube. Articulate your arguments using your own terminology derived from your own independent research/knowledge. Talk TO us instead of AT us, like people do, and I bet you'll find yourself having a better time on this forum.

XOXO ~Han~

Global warming is not a problem! It is global cooling that kill us!
Warming might put some coast located cities under water so what we relocate but survive..

We do not survive a global ice age.. period!
Climate change is a hysteria fueled by gullible people and governed by the greed for money and power.!

Take a look at this more in depth video(movie) with some real facts.

Think it will open your eyes and make you think more clear what is real and what is really a problem!

It stupefies me that people seem to like arguing about this stuff, when it doesn't matter an iota. It's nothing short of delusional to think that convincing someone of the merits of your opinion will result in any sort of material change at all. The only small thing you CAN do is lead by example. It's the easiest thing in the world to spot someone who actually cares about environmental issues (and it's not the YT videos they link): they're on a bicycle instead of in a car. That is THE metric. But don't kid yourself too much: that liter of petroleum distillates that you chose NOT to burn will instead be very, very happily ignited by someone in Abuja, or Pune, or Dongguan, or. . . Now pass me that cider!

I must respectfully disagree. You’re presuming the very things under debate and you’re entirely wrong. Riding a bike is NOT a sign of caring and caring has nothing to do with the facts and position we are in. We are in a deplorable position because so many are too intellectually lazy and/or ambivalent to stand up and be counted as understanding the situation.

This film above was great—maybe the best I’ve seen on the topic. Thanks for that Mich Angel. Let me just note three issues the film doesn’t address.

First, there is nothing in the film referencing Climategate—the early fraud perpetuated not once but twice in order to sell lies about the Climate hoax. Climate Science is hands down the most pathological science ever, for the reasons explained in the film. Why they didn’t dig down on the lies of Hanson et al at NASA as revealed when his emails were hacked, and the second fraud of the same type, I don’t know. Climategate is easily the most embarrassing form of scientific fraud in human history and people deserve to know how they have been lied to.

The second issue I think deserves more screen time is the actual metrics of energy. People need to know what it costs to power a society by solar panel and wind turbine. They need to know the true costs of producing energy by these extremely expensive means, how the cost of energy affects all costs, and what gets pulled from the average citizen’s wallet. For instance, in CA; energy is so expensive that the majority of citizens cannot afford to cool their homes. Unless you live on the coast where it is cooler, or are quite wealthy, odds are you spend your daylight hours in Walmart in order to cope with the smoldering temperatures all summer long.

To these two issues: scientific fraud and energy costs, I would add a third. It is this.

The vast and overwhelming bulk of climate change zealots are adolescents who have not learned critical thinking skills. Used to be people moved from adolescent thinking patterns to adult thinking patterns around age 25. Not today. Currently we have a generation in their 30’s and 40’s so intellectually and emotionally retarded they still don’t qualify as adults. To these people we have handed a global megaphone. And since these children grew up with participation trophies and no one ever telling them they are wrong, since Mommy and Daddy divorced and fought over single child’s affections, we are stuck with an entire generation of narcissistic little pricks who always think they’re right, even when they picked their solution out of a bloody fucking hat with their eyes closed.

It matters. It matters that all of life and civilization is in the hands of spoiled morons. If their parents don’t bitch slap their children, we can all expect to bear the brunt of that poor parenting and the Climate Catastrophe scam is just the beginning.

This is a prime example of EXACTLY why - if you genuinely cared about not being wasteful - instead of putting up an acre of solar panels, digging up a bunch of Lithium, and making a Tesla, you'd instead just ride your bike to work and be done. It's the ultimate indicator: action over blither. But none of that matters because spoiled or not, people just DON'T care, and continue to buy more Teslas and fewer bicycles, and that's just the way it is. You say "people need to know," and it's true that they don't know, but they also don't WANT to know, so it's pointless from the start. Might as well argue about which Vanguard variant is best, it'll be just as fruitful. (Spoiler: it's the Sentinel!)

I’m sorry but I think you still do not understand. There is no climate crisis. There is no resource scarcity. There is very little reason to conserve and certainly we live in a world of abundance, not scarcity.

If bad people of ill intent were not twisting life so as to control others, it would be obvious to everyone that they can drive what they like so long as they can afford it.

As one who commuted to school on a bicycle for a year, and to work for a year, and to college on motorcycle for a year, I completely object to your solution. You go ride a bike ten miles in the rain and then come back and lecture us about how this is the way. Fuck that. That sucks. Only people without a choice would willingly suffer such a bleak and hopeless future. People with a choice want a Jaguar F Type, prime rib and real tequila. They do not want to peddle to work in the rain, eat bugs and quiver at the mention of a hot shower.

Modern Environmentalism is not centered around the concept of human flourishing and so long as this remains the case, we can’t expect people even to get the questions right, let alone the answers. Let me highly recommend the works of Alex Epstein trying to bring us back to human flourishing. See his excellent book Fossil Future.

Wewt that got personal fast.

I am only going to say that a lot of people mistake their opinions for actual fact wheras it's actually just your opinion.

Can we not all come together under the teachings of the bald one, our lord Montoya?

For my part, I see the big picture and it doesn't help me help the environment, I weigh up me eating less tins of beans in order to save some carbon and weigh it against china and germany burning dirty coal as fast as they can shovel it and I think to myself - nothing I do with my cans of beans or car or house or anything is gonna make a damned bit of difference to the world wide issues.

It is you who misunderstands. I do not submit it as a 'solution' to anything, moreover I submit it as a METRIC. A measurement of the idles of society. My point is only that it doesn't matter at all whether there is a climate crisis or not, or whether there is or is not resource scarcity, people will behave the same regardless and therefore there lies absolutely no point in debating these subjects. Regardless of who is right or wrong about any aspect of it changes nothing, the point is simply moot.

^This is what I mean. It's completely true, and @BUTUZ can and will do whatever he damn well pleases with his beans and car, and there's no point in anyone trying to convince him otherwise. Enjoy your beans and - Skyline? - my friend!
