I think a thing to consider is that while the heavier armor makes it slower, it will take less damage when it is getting hit. Perhaps making it near immune to small arms fire, where the other would take damage.

Regardless of how fast the other version is, they both have to come to a stop to pick up people. Even the best pilot in the world is reliant on how quickly people can be loaded onboard. This is going to be several seconds at least of no movement where anyone is free to unload on it.

Not to mention with physicalized damage we may have armor penetration rounds that go through a ship with lower armor, possibly hitting and killing any crew members including the pilot.
Yeah I suppose a big part of it will be based on how the drones work too. They could possibly do their thing while the ship is moving, who know.

Very true, forgot about the drones. But it is possible they might be speed locked and not have personal shields. Ground troops may target them and take a few shots as well.

Like most things, we'll have to wait and see how it turns out. I'd hope if it's in the PU people would have a sort of truce when it comes to medical vehicles and allow the injured to be taken away, but there's always NPCs that won't follow such courtesies.

Other than some little difference in armor and speed, what's the real difference b/n these ships. They both get all the med bed options the guns and components can be changed around, I am confused by them. It feel like it boils down to red or white.

You've got the gist of it. The triage is a bit faster and nimbler and slightly more lightly armed (laser vs balistic on the turret), the medivac has a bit more weaponry and armor, and handles a little bit slower (though its top speed is a shade higher). Fairly minor differences according to the current stats on erkul.

If you are planning to attend ground combats, I recommend the Medivac. Don’t discount the missiles. The Medivac has twice as many and if you can lock ground vehicles those missiles can make a difference. The turrets don’t matter so much as you’ll want to load your preference anyway, but 8 missile shots from your remote turret operator could lock down a significant portion of the battlefield, and some extra armor can’t hurt.

I keep some store credit to try new ships.

I'll try the medivac.

Worst comes to worse it gets melted and I am no worse off! :D

Nothing in it, really. Combat-wise they are both large, slow, weakly defended targets. For medical gameplay they provide exactly the same services. I think that when the ship was concepted the differences in flight performance of the two were expected to be meaningful, but that's not where the design ended up (either for the ship or the game).

I have an OG Medivac and am struggling to find a reason to keep it.

Also, nice necro thread pull with two other active threads on the topic 🍻
