I think you're both kinda right. By the way Tony was describing it, it sounded like you could task your pilot to get you to a predefined point B (Possibly with waypoints along the way that you choose). Auto pilot would just fly in a straight line and drop you out of QD if you are about to hit...

Perhaps the best wording for this would be: You can only command NPCs that are directly members of your wing (i.e. Starfarer plus its two escorts). They are always traveling with you and are linked to QD when you QD. Its the only way they will be able to pull it off fairly I think.
