I don't think this is an AWS issue. It was probably related to pushing the updates at 10:00 EDT
Chris Roberts shut down the servers as he ran off to the Bahamas to buy a mansion with backers money while be strangled by Sandi. Its the only reasonable explanation - Refundians, probably.

CIG issues
Looks like CIG is having issues. They announced they are having delays with their server and launcher....possibly a DoS or just something happening on their system. twitter link UPDATE 14:57 EDT : It looks like CIG has taken their servers offline. (503 service unavailable error) UPDATE 15:19...

lol its a tad Crazy my Launcher has no launch or update buttons and tweets like a crazy bird every second till i shut it down. Gone back to Skyrim will have another go tomorrow.
This is unacceptable! I had to pay attention at work all day with nothing to distract me!
I guess having over 800,000 people all frantically hitting the servers was a bit too much. (I theorize that only about a third of backers would be actively hitting the servers at any one time)
Some of them around the world will be asleep, some will be at work, and some will be destroying the site with their fanatical interest.
3.7 does add a lot of really cool new stuff, so I guess it really isn't surprising that there'd be a lot of interest in it.

I would caution to wait for the dust to settle / servers get stable again before buying anything.
If there's an error during purchase, it can take 1-4 weeks for a support ticket to get answered.

it will be intermittent for a bit. It's back down right now for me.
It finally worked for me after multiple times closing then relaunching the launcher.
