:) Yeah, well they are the only ones I have!

On that topic...

I would totally let the Republicans have a massive convention in August. Let them do it!
But would you hold it on the same day and convention center as the weekly COVID sufferers anonymous meeting?

With the recent hoo-haa I missed this one from a few days ago:

Backwards modelling suggests the notorious delay in the UK implementing a lockdown between March 14th and March 23rd when it finally came into force allowed cases to increase from 200,000 to 1.5 million in just 9 days, leading to the highest death toll in Europe and it taking much longer to leave lockdown restrictions:

Looking back at the posts from that mid-march times... What a lot of needless death and suffering has happened since then.

This one from March 16th is particularly poignant:

[...]

It has been stated the UK is only "three weeks" away from an Italy situation which can't help but make one feel any advantage the country had has been squandered, however they still stand by their statement that they will only implement measures when the time is right in attempt to avoid a second wave, whatever that means. Schools staying open for now.

There has been backtracking on the whole "Herd Immunity" thing, stating it was never part of the plan and statements were misinterpreted however it totally appears to be what was said in the first instances with all the use of the words "herd" and "immunity".
Before that statement it had been very relaxed, very distanced and not too worried and then suddenly: three weeks from Italy. And eventually, although it wasn't as fast and the health services were not overwhelmed, we did overtake Italy.

Little did I know that, even at that point, the advantage we still had was fast slipping away.

The time will come for inquiries. Truths (or a form of them) will out. Perhaps even justifications will be put forth for the ifs, whats, buts and hows... I look forward to hearing what those were, if we do indeed get them, and if they were worth it.

Noteable UK COVID reports from today Wednesday 27th May:

A BBC team looking at the effect of Fake News has collated real harm being done to people around the world:

It's a long read, so if you have the time treat yourself do, but if not a few of the more interesting findings:

- Florida man believed it was as advised early on a Hoax or something to do with 5G phone masts. Contracted CV and he, and his wife who is now critically ill and sedated 24 hours a day, are now being treated on separate wards. "And now I realise that coronavirus is definitely not fake [...] It's out there and it's spreading." "Don't be foolish like I was, and the same thing won't happen to you like it happened to me and my wife."

- Increased cases of hydroxychloroquine poisoning due to unsubstantiated/fabricated reports of it's effectiveness in being a remedy to CV including a couple from Phoenix who happened to have some in the house. Unfortunately theirs was not medicinal, it was for cleaning their pool. Garry died, Wanda survived, when asked why they took it she said they were scared and "Trump kept saying it was pretty much a cure"

- Multiple 5G phone masts have been torched in the wake of online speculation that it was the new technology causing the illness. (There has been no apparent correlation with infection rates and corona virus, as infections fall in Lockdown but 5G coverage continues.)

- Corona related racially motivated assaults have been recorded in multiple countries including murders where people have lost their lives following several hearsay myths that have traveled through various cultures that it is a a racial minority spreading the infection, including one instance in the UK where it was claimed hospitals in Bradford, which has a higher than average racial mix in the UK, leaving causation patients to die while favoring those of BAME origins. This claim was, of course, found to be groundless but did result in verbal and physical threats against doctors and nurses in the area.

----------------
The government has now said that parents are now free to relocate if they need child care, however there will be no review or refund of fines back to parents who while relocating to obtain child care broke lockdown rules and were charged previously.

Please bear in mind, this was reported to the public by Robert Jenrick, who himself earlier in the lockdown broke it twice traveling 150 miles a time to his mansion in the country and also to visit his parents.

------------------
And finally, Twitters Anti-Porn filters stop Mr. Cummings name from trending because it had Cum in it. Lucky he didn't stop for a piss in Scunthorpe on the way to Durham.

Also the little fact that COVID-19 infections happen in countries that do not even have 5G towers.

Alabama, which opened up, going from stay-at-home to a more optional safer-at-home policy on April 30th.

On the bright side, avg deaths are around 10 per day at the moment, which is still tragic, but the numbers are not rising dramatically. Yet.

What?? Are you serious, its impossible you be part of that fake news aren't ya?

But in all seriousness, it's not just something that's limited to Cov19 its been a part of human history. And I am sure once a vaccine is released there will be a group who swears its a way for the government to implant tracking chips or cause harm.

Of course, it's not like it hasn't happened in the past with governments secretly doing messed up shit under the guise of helping.

UK goings on from today.

Prime Minister says he's drawn a line under questioning of his top advisor and their Lockdown rule breaking, but leaving many questions unanswered including why he:
1) Broke Quarantine rules by leaving their house while someone was in the property had symptoms.
2) Broke Lockdown rules by traveling 260 miles across the country.
3) Did not think that if he and his wife got so sick they could not look after their kid as they feared and justified the trip with, they would then need to be taken to Durham Hospital for oxygen treatment or intubation risking the whole hospital to exposure to the straine of the virus he'd bought 260 miles with him. Quarenteed wasn't only to keep the virus in that house, it was to keep it in the area it was active in.
4) Broke Isolation rules by having an ambulance crew attend their cottage at the height of his illness which by his own admission was when he was so ill he "could not stand", to attend to his child who was also sick enough to then be taken to hospital with the wife, leaving Mr. Cummings, so sick he could not stand, alone at the property (I don't think an ambulance crew would do that unless they were not told he was there?). The child eventually did not test positive for COVID but that doesn't mean he or his mother did not carry it on their skin, clothes or other personal effects into the hospital to effect the medical staff there. It's understandable that they needed an ambulance for their child, it is not understandable that this was not in London at their home.
5) As one of the architects of the UK Coronavirus response who are supposed to be keeping the residents of the country safe, why he could not judge that the above four above things were a massive risk to public health the severity of which massively overshadowed the mild inconvenience of calling round the three family members, and multiple personal aides, who lived within three miles of his home in the capital before buggering off with two known and potentially three active COVID cases in the car.

The PM has basically told everyone to stop talking about it, and the police in Durham said they can't do shit about this retrospectively so he's not even going to get a £60 fine.

During a press conference he blocked his top scientists from commenting on it, and as far as it looks, he's gone all Tyrant and we 'aint getting any resolution to this, we've all just got to accept it was okay for him to do but everyone else who did similar and got fined by the police are not going to be given a refund, but hey it's been made clear we are now allowed to relocate for child care reasons.

In other world COVID news:

India - Hospitals in Mumbai begin to be overwhelmed as patients share beds.

France - Car maker Renault to cut around 15,000 jobs worldwide as manufacturing demand contracts across the globe, while the UK manufacturing industry as a whole produced only 197 cars in April due to lockdown closing the factories.

USA - Trump presidential campaign attempts to remove political satire cartoon from a website using legal action. The image, involving his coronavirus claims on Chloroquine and disinfectants in the lungs, was on sale from an online retailer however it was removed with trademark leagal action, apparently infringing on free speech. Meanwhile Trump himself enacts legal action on social media networks for providing factual information along side one of his messages with the claim it is infringing on free speech... erm... also apparently infringing on free speech...?

World - 120 researchers and medical professionals have questioned the validity of the recent Chloroquine study in to death rates while victims of COVID were taking it. The questions center around the methodology of the study, it's database and other key factors. The questions are about the data the study was built on and how that data was looked at rather than its findings. When I originally commented on this I did think it required full trials and that the study was only a look at the situation, however one which would not inspire medical professionals to view it as a wonder-drug worthy of such studies.

Scotland (UK) - A 94 year old woman in Glasgow didn't eat for five days as she ran out of supplies and was too scared to leave her home during lockdown. She had no support network to help look after or check up on her. She was only discovered as charity workers were knocking door-to-door in regards to a food support scheme.

Philippines - Manilas lockdown, which is due to pass the duration of Wuhans lockdown by monday, is to be lifted despite still having an active contagion with many new cases.

UK - Lockdown restrictions to be eased on Monday allowing family members who do not live in the same household to meet each other in outside spaces in groups no larger than six, while observing two meter social distancing. While this should be cause for optimism, if not celebration, the second highest death toll in the world and the launch of an apparently unprepared Track and Trace system lacking a much touted mobile phone app, (which while in testing was subject to a data leak of the contact emails of those taking part in the trial) appears to undermine the good feelings somewhat.

Some of todays world COVID news:

Greece - The country is to reopen its Tourism industry in June having only registered 3000 cases and 175 deaths having taken a hardline lockdown early on. Its doors will be open to 29 countries it deems to have controlled CV well enough to accept their citizens. The UK is not among those countries accepted despite being one of its largest markets.

India - Reports emerged monkeys stole COVID-19 samples from a health worker in Meerut which is near Delhi, the samples were later recovered undamaged.

China - Wuhans aim of testing the whole city in ten days has reported 9 million total samples were taken (with some exceptions for, for example, the very young) with 6.7 million processed to date.

South Korea - Second wave and spike in infections delays planned school reopenings.

USA - Former administration adviser describes the countries response to the virus in unfavorable terms.

When you decide it's time to travel, I'm sure things like this will start popping up everywhere.
I've seen loads of this kind of ad, I am wondering if I'd be allowed back into my own country if there is a flair-up while i'm over there though. I recall there were hotels with tourists in in the original lockdowns which confined the guests to their rooms for 23 hours a day and with no flights, they were not going home any time soon... 😮

Being single its a risk I'd be willing to take. I'm sure there would be some upsides to it. A lot less tourists for one.

Problem right now though is that a lot of the countries opening up for tourism are banning entry to citizens who come from countries that have yet to squash Covid19 (US, UK, Canada, etc). I probably won't go back to work till late June, July and have been talking to my partner about doing a getaway. We're probably gonna do something local within our Province.

So I just sent my aunt away in an ambulance. Delerious, cold sweats, chest pain, low grade fever. Never been in an ambulance before. I can't go see her but I'll be waiting to see what it is and see if they treat influenza or covid. Those would be my first guess unless its something more complicated.
