Who would have thought that ignoring ALL valid scientific evidence, ALL sound medical advice, and ALL common sense would have led to this? 🤔

COVID Catharsis Corner - Reports from around the world from today, Sunday 4th of October:

- World: 34,995,740 confirmed cases and 1,034,689 confirmed deaths.

- US: Medical team confirms President Trump was given oxygen treatment prior to being moved to hospital. When asked why this was not revealed at the time the team advised they wished to mirror the up-beat message the presidential team was relaying to the public at the time. They also revealed he has been in receipt of dexamethasone, a cheap steroid treatment which had been proven to improve the prospects of covid patents with more severe symptoms to improve lung function. Despite the seeming seriousness of receiving dexamethasone it seems to be precautionary as they have floated the possibility of discharging the President back to the White House as early as Monday, where he would be able to continue his treatment and recovery - however it should be noted he would still be an active carrier of COVID-19, and thus contagious and would need to quarantine.

- US: A crowed ceremony at the White House last Saturday where social distancing was not observed has resulted in 8 confirmed positive COVID cases and has been described as a "Super Spreader" event.

- UK: Highest ever new daily cases at 12,872 rising over 10k for the first time, government indicates the number is so high as it includes some cases that were not reported earlier in the week due to a 'glitch' however did not indicate how many extra were included in the figure. It is still worth noting although this is the UK's second wave it's the first with mass testing available so the two waves are unfortunately not directly comparable.

- France: Sees 12,565 new daily cases.

- Russia: sees 10,499 new daily cases.

- World: India and South Africa approach the WHO asking for Intellectual Property Rules to be waived to help developing and poorer countries produce or import COVID vaccines and treatments. The rules are called Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) and the matter has yet to be discussed.

- Canada: Chief Public Health Officer warns Canada is on the edge of a massive resurgence of COVID-19 cases as Ontario and Quebec see highest daily new infections in months.

- US: Nine states see record new cases in the last seven days, Kentucky, Minnesota, Montana and Wisconsin on Saturday, Kansas, Nebraska, New Hampshire, South Dakota and Wyoming saw record highs last week.

- Cinema: Worlds second largest cinema operator Cineworld to close all screens in US, UK and Ireland, citing James Bond movie delay as last straw making their venues unviable.

- US: New York Mayor says nine neighborhoods may be heading for Local Lockdown restrictions.

Talked to my partner who's on the Covid19 team at her hospital. She's not sure about the his doctors releasing him so soon.

So far Trump has received an anti-viral cocktail, Remdesivir, Dexamethasone, and oxygen. Those are all pretty serious treatments for him to be released only 3 days after admittance.

No word about Hydroxychloroquine though. I wonder why his doctors haven't prescribed him that treatment yet. Hmm.

Yeah, way too soon.

COVID only gets serious after the first week of symptoms.

This is day three.. in 7-9 days from now we will have a way better picture of his overall health.

I sincerely hope he recovers ASAP. I also hope this experience also injects him with a much needed dose of humility.

Boris Johnson's response to Covid19 completely changed after he contracted the virus. Before catching the virus, he was still advocating strategies like 'Herd Immunization'. How quickly that tune changed.

His approach since it has been more relaxed i feel, but thats just me, only thing thats improved since bojo's positive test was mass testing.

That's a start.

I remember when all this began, he was making statements about Covid19 that raised eyebrows. Friend of mine is a doctor working in the NHS in Brighton and she wasn't impressed by the PM's comments at the beginning of all this. I think he's a lot more willing to step aside and let the medical experts take the reins these days.

Mass testing is a positive step. I don't think that's happening in the US. Hell I don't think we have that in Canada either. Testing is widely available here but I wouldn't say it's 'Mass'. My god the testing backlogs.

The mass testing is a great thing, there has been reports of unavailability that is true, I wanted to get my misses tested the other week but there were nowhere to go, we managed to get a late slot a week ago for a test and she got results positive.

The real problem in the uk from my observation is the lack of clarity on anything. I feel it is intentionally left for interpretation so that no one is really accountable, not to mention the contradictory actions of the people who make these guidelines and no recourse for them.

Wow...I looked at the headlines yesterday, saw a photo of Trump in a car, and thought "Oh, he was discharged from the hospital."

BUT NO! He just went out for a 5 minute or so "joy ride" or drive-by of the people outside his hospital. Holy cow, in his infectious state, he went and put others at risk (notably, the Secret Service agents who had to accompany him).

I would say this was "truly bizarre" except it completely fits with his narcissistic and antisocial personality. If anybody wants to read a good book, the leading researcher on psychopathy authored a book called "Snakes in Suits" in which he applies his findings to the corporate world to help explain how this behavior would look in everyday life.

COVID Catharsis Corner - Reports from around the world from today, Monday 5th of October:

- World: 35,252,679 confirmed cases and 1,038,307 confirmed deaths.

- World: Passes 35 million confirmed cases, we passed 34 on Thursday meaning 1 million more cases in the last 4/5 days.

- UK: "Technical Error" fails to log close to 16,000 positive cases between 25 September and 2 October. While it did alert the infected persons, it was not logged on the dailies and also failed to activate the Track And Trace system to alert anyone the sick had been close to that they were in contact with the virus, an estimated 50,000 people.

- US: More white-house staff test positive for COVID while President trump appears to be stable at present. Trump takes a ride in a car driven by security staff seemingly to give well wishers outside his hospital a photo opportunity. Sources state Trump is "Done with hospital".

- France: Paris to close all bars as the alert is raised to highest level.

- UK: Prime Minister advises £500 self isolation payment for poorest workers who have to self isolate for 14 days was per-week "£500 if you do per week and a £10,000 fine if you don’t". Later retracts the statement as it is a one-off to making it the equivalent of £250 a week. The fine remains £10,000 though, it doesn't halve to £5,000.

- Russia: School kids in Moscow to stay at home for 14 days and companies asked to get at least 30% of workers to work from home as cases reach highest point since May.

- Iran: Sees highest daily cases on record.

- New Zealand: Auckland to lift final restrictions as the city, the center of the countries largest outbreak, sees no new cases for 10 days in a row.

- Uganda: Blood donors stay away under COVID restrictions, leading to a national shortage.

If you've (general you, not you specifically) ever spent a long time in a hospital, more than a day or two ... It's very easy to become "Done". And you get more done the longer you sit and wait for nothing to happen.

I need to go to a hospital in the UK... I had a nice doctor, but the nurses locked me in my room after I got out of intensive care and talked to me on a speaker if I got out of bed to take a leak. The food was dodgy, and there was no WiFi at all inside the hospital. You had to go outside, which they wouldn't let me do.

That sounds wretched. The only real issue with our local hospital is the building is so old there are only enough power points to really service the medical equipment so although you have free WiFi it's having enough power long enough to enjoy it. Otherwise it's the TV sets on the arms hanging over the bed which you have to pay £10 a day to use and all switch off at 9pm sharp.
