So what I'm getting from some of those drivers is that if you slow down first then the clearance might magically change?
My theory is the higher rotation of the tyres makes centrifugal forces throw the rubber outwards, making them rounder and thus taller, so going slowly should give you perhaps an inch which could make all the difference.

If you study this slow-mo footage of a dragster wheel, you'll notice once the friction vs turning force has equalised the wheels is noticeably rounder than when at a standstill:

As a professional driver, let me tell you the correct method is to let the air out of your seat so the truck lowers and allows you to pass.

Gah, I got suspended from Spectrum for a day.
