Any idea if/when we will be able to get a Polaris corvette?

Well I'm not sure if it fits but, any chance the Polaris can carry a Vanguard Hoplite dropship? would make the Polaris great for ship heists :eyes::banana:
Official word is a Sabre will fit, barely. If you want to carry a Hoplite, you need a Javelin.

Why would you want to waste a javelin carrying a hoplite which is long range anyway and can fly anywhere a javelin can? Put a sabre in the javelin to provide fire support and have the hoplite fly along side.

Try to keep in mind that the chief advantage of the Polaris' hangar bay is not to carry ships, but to refuel, refit, equip and repair them. If you have a ship you want to pair with the Polaris that does not have a jump drive then you could carry it, but ships like the Hoplite are already long range. They don't need to be carried. They could need to have missiles replaced and such, which is the best use for the Polaris' hangar.

The point is that a Hoplite doesn't fit in the Polaris Hangar. A Sabre is about as big as it gets.

A Javelin carries a Platoon of Marines, IIRC. A Platoon of Marines requires 4, rough guess it could be 5, Hoplites to deploy to the target.

Boarding your dropships is easier in a Hangar than through EVA. Land a Hoplite, load your marines take off, land the next Hoplite, etc.

One other thing to remember, unlike the Warden/Harbinger/Sentinel the Hoplite isn't equipped for long duration flights.

Back to the OP The Polaris is unlikely to be available from CIG before the next anniversary sale. (Though you can purchase it Gray Market.)

The Retaliator serves a similar role at a lower price and is flyable now. If you are a Subscriber it is also available now.

My recommendation is that If you are serious about the Polaris, then get the Retaliator Base, crew it and fly it to see if you like the game play. If you don't you can upgrade to something else. If you like it you can upgrade to the Polaris at the Anniversary sale or upgrade it to the Bomber version at the next Anniversary Sale if you don't want to get bigger after all.

After being in a Retaliator during the CFT on Saturday, I have to say it's a nice ship, bit it feels like a bomber, as in "fly over their base and drop a load" kind of bomber, I might be wrong since it's supposed to have torps and stuff, but the design isn't "spaceship-like" enough for me. Looking it it's nice, but I prefer the Polaris still. I also can see many roles a Polaris can fill while the Tali is a bomber only, I don't see anyone calling for a Retaliator for escort/patrol for example. It will have to be as extra (though I don't see that being that common to make a living out of).

As for the Retaliator Base, I'm not quite sure how much customization will affect it's role, as in what will you put instead of the bombs bay? it won't fit another ship, you "might" be able to convert it to something other than a torpedo bay (some sort of big cannon instead? recon gear? who knows) but all in all I don't see it's potential for being my dream ship.

There have been sold modules for cargo, person transport (living rooms), dropship. Advertised to exists modules to recharge Titan armors, and probably others.

Yeah! I think that part from the Endeavor the Retaliator is the one ship with the biggest variation and most modules avail at the moment, but non of the modules are in the game yet. You can still buy them sometime on sale in add-on section or buy them from someone that have them...
The Retaliator is a very versatile ship and it do fly really great.
I did some high speed flying with it in the Dymars canyon and it performed awesome IMO.

:beers:

Thanks for the info, I don't really know what modules are out there (don't follow spectrum/dev blog much lol), but again, these modules are still for a ship that will go land somewhere to drop off troops/cargo etc., I want a ship that fills a role of bigger ships, hence why I wanted a corvette, I don't see corvette landing in the field to deploy troops, it will host a transport that will take the troops to the front line while it stays in orbit and keeps an eye out for incoming enemies (obv the Polaris is not a carrier or something, but it can carry a strike team of 6~8 people to deploy from a transport, if anything of the sort can fit the hanger, or some other way to transfer troops).

EDIT: this transport should fit https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/ships/argo/MPUV-Personnel

P.S. I know this thing is nothing more than a flying box, but hey, I said transport, didn't talk about luxury/self defense :D

I have all modules in my buyback list ^^u

So it keeps being a fast ship? Is it faster than a Connie?

Maybe we could fit a bigger ship than the MPUV like the Cutlass. Or maybe a new RSI ship adapted to the Polaris hangar.

Well haven't compared them but it is really fast for it's size and I do now it's twice if not even more as agile as the Connie IMO.
It kind of feels little like flying a very heavy but stable version of the Saber, so the heavy effect is very present when you fly it but the engines are so damn strong you just floor it to counter act any drifting it make. IMO it make it even more fun to fly for you really feel how heavy it is but I was surprised how agile it was in the canyons I did not expect that at all.

 :beers:

Edit: reason I went down to surface to try it out was cause I couldn't get a good reference in space how it behaved, but with surface around and under you that is not a problem at all LOL.

Ah! found the link to the sale page they had way back, with some info about modules on the Tali..

I just gave that as an example of transport ship, not sure if a Cutlass qualify as "transport ship" as a role. Also the size is very borderline with the current Polaris hanger, but maybe with some grease you can fit one in, good luck taking off though :')

Yeah, it works also as a boarder ship.
My hope is that Polaris grow enough to have an increase in hangar size.
