I was hoping they will not push patch that it worse than 3.9.0 and 3.9.1.
But from combat perpective this must be the worst patch in ages....

Whoever came with changes to target aquisition should be fired and put on industry blacklist. If they ever play game at all, I bet they are trading or mining, because anyone who did a bit of combat can see how crap is targetting in 3.10.0...

Looks like its making obstacles to make group gameplay. I can see the benefit of this style of targeting for group where one ship higjhlights a target and feeds it to the rest or multi-crew play where one player is sat at the Targeting Station, but for a single player this kind of micromanagement is not conductive to fun play. "I'm drifing out the boundry this is really distracting" in the video KABOOM kind of a case in point.

Sack whoever came up with this? Nope. This type of micromanagement has its place, but that's in Group/Multi-crew where it's the only thing a player is doing and becomes their gameplay role... As long as the simple, limited, easy and quick to use single player targeting comes back as an option and this is kept as a more powerful option, we'll have no problems.

Yeah had the same idea. They probably want to make a "radar operator mode" with advanced functionality. And i'm fine with the whole "pin section". But i think i also want to have the old cycle through enemy option.
As far as I can work out if there is an easy limited way and a hard comprehensive way, people will usually choose the easy way because hard is only fun to a hardcore of masochists for whatever that particular thing is. So the easy goes byebye, they get everyone trying it and the feedback. all players are TESTers, whether they know it or not :)

My hope is, as with hover mode, they'll get the feedback they need and fun mode will be reinstalled.

Rather positive on this, maybe someone can correct me here:

+ you can use camera pov to select targets, then use active input to pin or lock target (head tracking if available)
+ pinning allows for swapping inbetween, so i pin all enemies, and may choose to lock target the first one via double input (pin + lock)
+ pinned targets allow me to take my eye off the radar and see them marked in space = better overview, faster reaction (target (1), (2), friendly (3)...)
+ group game play got a defined role added
+ ship systems (Hornet tracker i.e.) allow for better usage / are worth their role (y/n?)
+ - i have to pin to utilize the system

seems like a 9/10 improvement to a noob combat player like Heartwood.

yes, with the following comments

>>> + pinning allows for swapping inbetween, so i pin all enemies, and may choose to lock target the first one via double input (pin + lock)
yes but "only" 3 pins (yet?)

>>> + group game play got a defined role added
partly currently only for turrets, but i see no reasons why it shouldn't be for partys in the future (Turrets should be able to see the pinned targets from the pilot)

>>> + ship systems (Hornet tracker i.e.) allow for better usage / are worth their role (y/n?)
Atm no, later yes
(Already ingame Hornet should have better scanner, is better at detecting stuff already, -> stealth gameplay)

>>> + - i have to pin to utilize the system
Yes, and the system is a little bit confusing in the hectic combat

>>> seems like a 9/10 improvement to a noob combat player like Heartwood.
the old system was better for situational awareness as you could cycle through all enemy ships and not only those you're looking at.

From my understanding, the limited pin number comes from the limitation of the targeting computer. They want you to be able to later upgrade to a better one that can pin more targets, maybe even lock more than one for simultaneous multiple missile launches and such.
I think CR wants the targeting system to be upgradeable similar to old Privateer where the basic computer couldn't even distinguish between friend or foe, everything was just marked in white instead of red for enemies, green for friendlies...

I can't get in. I launch the game, say yes it can use the camera, crashes at the splash screen. Tried the usual. verify, delete user, same deal, I might redownload.

For me, it gives an arcade feel, kind of like playing an old on rails game, definitely feels less impressive. Plus when in the universe situational awareness of when additional hostiles jump in is greatly reduced.

I see both sides to this, one side it can make combat feel terribly cumbersome, slow and micromanaged and I totally get it from a dogfight or single player point of view. But I also see the immersion side to this, this gives ships like the Tracker, Terrapin, Carrack, virtually any ship with robust scanning systems another job, these ships that were labeled C&C now have an actual job, players on board these larger ships like Polaris, Hammerhead and capital ships now have a huge role play in my opinion, your radar guy is now possibly just as important as your pilot or gunners. Stealth or Recon ships can now sort of label targets for a fleet or group to line up and put an order on things, from a tactical and group/fleet aspect this is a huge improvement.

Again, I see both sides to, I also believe by the time this game is done, another 2-3 years from now it wouldn't surprise me if CIG implements its own voice command system, after seeing so many people use it and the fact that it works pretty damn well in an alpha I think it would stupid for CIG not to just put this in the game. Imagine these systems 2-3 years from now, you won't even be pushing keyboard binds lol we will all have VR and voice commands.
