PLEASE NKATO, it's no different than saying, "I JUST SUNK THAT MiG 29 FULCRUM AT 26,000 feet"!
Here's an exception for you: "Sinking a ship" will be applicable to large multicrew ships and up. (Constellation-sized and larger)

So you don't have to worry about sinking a Hornet. You shoot that fucker down.

now I understand what you mean. Shot down doesn't sound right when you're talking about a big ass space ship
However, Sinking has nothing to do with the size of a ship. It has EVERYTHING to do with PHYSICALLY SINKING . People sink in quick sand, Ships sink in the ocean, Aircraft shot down over the ocean do actually sink down below the waves.

In space, there is nothing to sink in. It is impossible to sink, because there is no sinking medium. The problem is, we don't have a word in english for that, because we've never done anything like it. We'll have to invent a word.

For now, there are these options:

Destroy, defeat, kill, service, neutralize, wreck, disable. We need a word for that, it sounds like it could use one. For now, I think destroy is the most easily applicable. I'll do some research and see if I can find something applicable, maybe make something. You're right, we really are lacking an appropriate term for "destroyed big ass spaceship".

"Good job guys, we really TESTed that Idris!"

Yes, you have to say it with capital letters.

After not playing for months, I finally got back in last night and made it back to Sol after being chased by space pirates.

Anyone know a good place to farm NPC bounties near here? I have a Cobra Mk III with noob gear on it and want to try out cargo hauling eventually.

I'm based out of Solo Orbiter in the Altair System. Decent hunting, I guess? I'm not sure what it's like in Open Play, as I'd been playing Solo there.

I bought a Viper and upgraded it extensively, so I've been hunting mostly bounties.

Look for a Resource Extraction Site, they are usually around ringed planets.

Pirate NPCs hang around there, they will either come up to you and scan you, or you can approach them and see if your scan shows them as wanted.

If they are wanted, you are can blow them up.

I landed in a good instance yesterday, had back to back Anacondas and Pythons, ended up with 1.2M credits in about 40min.

How do you even beat Anacondas? And what is your name in ED?

I just traded in my Cobra and bought a Type-6 space truck. Anyone have any suggestions on how to outfit it? I'm not used to flying a non-combat ship in this game.

I put an anti-missile turret in the back, but haven't bought anything else yet. I have about 155K in credits left over to spend.

The above is for pure hauling. No offensive/defensive capabilities. You can trade a cargo rack for a shield generator for extra safety.

Do the tutorials first, including combat training. They will get you up to speed. After that, do solo play before jumping into open world. The last thing you want is to get PK'ed right off the bat and get discouraged.

Try tackling some NPC Sidewinders once you have your own Sidewinder outfitted for combat. Turn in your bounties, then trade up to an Eagle once you can. After that, jump into open world and watch your ass for pirates!

Yaw?

Pitch is faster, which I feel makes the combat a little more interesting. No such thing as turning battles in SC.
I find pitch in SC faster, which is not necessarily better. I don't even use Yaw, so slow it is. But I agree, no turning battles fells good.

Yaw is artificially limited in Elite Dangerous in order to prevent "turreting" combat like we see in Star Citizen. In the original Elite there was no yaw at all.

So i started playing elite again, with rare good trading. Took awesome @bryceedmundo guide and adjusted it a bit (this guide is for a complete noobs like me). Let's go.

My ship: Cobra. Started as stock. I strongly recommend getting proper trade ship for that stuff - i'm in cobra just because i love multi-role ships.
Typical output: ~700k/hour. Yep.

My upgrade path:
1) A class fuel scoop - it helps ALOT. I can basically fill my whole tank in less than 5 mins with 75/s. If i remember correctly, i found mine at diso. I find it way faster to fill my tank with scooping than fly to closest station. Practice it - you can basically hover at one place and scoop fuel without getting fried. Remember that you start taking actual damage (on cobra at least) at 140% heat level.
2) A class FSD - around 20 LY jump range. 8-9 Jumps between Zaonce and Tauri 39. 11 from witchhaul. Combined with Fuel scoop, it takes me around 15-20 mins to get from Z to T. Can be found on many stations on your trade route. Can't recall which one. Tauri, maybe?
3) A Thrusters - hey, try to interdict me now!

Optional: docking computer. Saves some nerves. But watch out - it can crash you straight into base.

Screw economical routes. Use fastest. You can now (with A FSD) jump to close systems with basically zero fuel usage and you got awesome fuel scoop - use it.

To shield or not to shield - that's your choice. I fly without shields, making ~200k extra per run with additional cargo spot, which is around my insurance cost.

1st rare system group:
Zaonce - Ridley Scott
Lave - Lave Station
Leesti - George Lucas
Uszaa - Guest Installation
Orrere - Sharon Lee
Diso - Shifnal Port <- This one usually have alot of cheapo stuff (like 30T), i visit it last to top up my load

Now for second group...
39 Tauri - Porta
Fujin - Futen
Geras - Yurchikhin Port. I usually find decent amount of rare goods (like 30T again, allows me to top up my load)
Those are located a bit far away, but not as many people descri and may require some jumps, but usually worth it...
Witchhaul - Hornby Terminal
Wolf 1301 - This one sells illegal drugs. Use it if you can do some smuggling and if you still have some cargo space to spare...

And now back. Got some illegal stuff? Sell at Diso, Shifnal Port. Got only legal stuff? Sell at Zaonce.

Using this method, i now have 6mil in assets (i started from 500k, mostly stock cobra which i "earned" in LP 98-i-can't-recall-name-of-that-pirate-system) in just two days of lazy trading when i hasn't had any other stuff to do / play) in two days. I hope i'll see ASP in my garage soon...

I never found the need for docking computer. Tried it once... but on a Cobra, it's easy enough to land without much trouble. It may be more useful for large ships like Anaconda or Type-9.

Also since I got my Asp and crashed it... ........ losing everything, except my 600k insurance debt... I've been doing "normal" trading. I can find a route to make 170k profit per run. I'm trying to do that in Empire systems, to get my rep up, so I can eventually (in the very far future) get a Clipper, or even earlier, a smaller Courrier(?) that's coming with next patch.

Rare trading is also very good until you can hold 100t+ cargo. That's how I got my Vulture, and bounty hunted until I got my Asp.

Also, Asp, is spelt Asp, without the capital S and P. Asp is a snake (like Cobra, Viper, Python, Anaconda, etc). It's not an acronym A.S.P. (it really grinds some people's gears in /r/EliteDangerous apparently)
