Base case is that the US runs out of ICU beds in April

This is why it's important to self isolate if you can. Just precautionary, but if it helps to slow down the infection rate it slows down how fast hospitals will fill up with critical care cases.
Some good news but it's just regarding test kits.

I really wish politicians would stop politicizing this, and be more enabling than complaining. That goes right to the top of their food chain.

Its socialism! And you are going to take it!

Well yes, its the start, but temporary.

Once we are over the hump and new cases start declining in 3 months, we will ease back into normal life and the free money will stop.
Meanwhile here in EU/UK ... thats too difficult .. ironically Corbyn got called a socialist for the exact same thing. LOL

Information cannot be disclosed due to patient privacy. There's definitely way more cases in Florida than is being reported, but that's obvious. 19 nursing homes suspected but even if they did have it they wouldn't tell us which ones.

"At stake is China’s global reputation, as well as the potential of a fundamental shift away from China for trade and manufacturing."

"The communist government instead is claiming that it has largely controlled the epidemic, even as it suspiciously now blames “foreign arrivals” for new cases of virus. Leaked video from China shows huge lines at a hospital in Chongqing, for example, raising questions about just what is happening around the country. "

"Chinese state media is praising the government’s “effective, responsible governance," but the truth is that Beijing is culpable for the spread of the pathogen around China and the world. Chinese officials knew about the new virus back in December, and did nothing to warn their citizens or impose measures to curb it early on."

"That carefully tended image is now cracked. Those concerned with global health issues may wonder why it is that China is wracked regularly by viral epidemics in addition to coronavirus, such as SARS, African Swine Fever, and avian flu (another outbreak is happening right now). Others may begin to look more carefully at China’s environmental devastation and the hundreds of thousands of premature deaths each year from air and water pollution."

If they aren't actively testing and confining people who are infected, then all you have is a bunch of "Typhoid Mary's" running around and infecting people...who you aren't even able to count.

This is great. Thank God. Won't need it myself, as the military has sent us all home regardless, but there are millions who this will aid.

Yeah, my wifey (nurse) had been telling me that the age groups of those affected had started dropping. France over 50% of the severe cases are under 60, I believe is what she said. Same in Alberta.

She could not have put it any simpler to understand.

“Feeling confused as to why Coronavirus is a bigger deal than Seasonal flu? Here it is in a nutshell. I hope this helps. Feel free to share this with others who don’t understand...

The deeply disappointing part is all this was known pretty much from the get-go when it blew up in January.

I'm not going to say any more on it, people whom I have discussed the lackadaisical response of some parts of the world so far on Facebook have started having their critical posts pulled down for breaching terms and guidelines.

Facebook have advised it was a spam filter error: https://www.cnet.com/news/facebook-spam-filter-blocking-legitimate-links-including-some-to-coronavirus-information/ I cannot recall many of the posts I commented on having off-site links, but then my memory isn't the best and they have a whole lot of misinformation to deal with right now.

Just out of curiosity and as a just in case measure, I called the Florida Department of Health certification office to see if they made any exceptions to reinstate expired EMT licenses, but so far nothing and they say they dont forsee it. I think he said it only goes back a couple months for extensions.
My mum is 88. Long retired nurse-turned midwife-turned academic-turned retiree helping to run a hospital in the foothills of the Himalayas. I had to stop her from volunteering her services. She wants to go back to the wards (and not as a patient!).
