Captain Call
Space Marshal
any thoughts about the Gladiator?
Some, but not much:any thoughts about the Gladiator?
Upgraded from a Dragonfly!
okay - I have had similar results in the past - just trying to see if was just my flying or type of ship - until the Cap Ships are out it will be hard to test the value of this ship-- as fighter or other use? - other fighters are much better choice -Some, but not much:
Couple o' days ago, after successfully TESTing ( :D) the Gladiator within VS (Vanduul Swarm), I went into the Battle Royal with her, fighting against human opponents. What a disaster! Whereas the KI Vanduul fighters are bobbing around in front of your Gladiators nose, and you can pick them out of the space like ripe fruit, I was kind of raped within BR. No chance at all to even come close to successful dogfights. This has drawn me back to the 350R, with which I made entirely different experiences: whereas the Vanduul KI shredded my 350R pretty fast, within BR I can play with the big guys, being always under the top 10 (best place = 3rd so far). Ergo imho: Gladiator seems to be a strange mixture, too small for a "real" bomber like the Warden, but too bomber-like for being an effective dogfighting vessel.
You can't buy them with REC, maybe if they come with a ship you own.No spike missiles in service yet?
Yeah, I agree that it's in a strange spot right now. I love the look of mine. And actually maneuverability is not too bad. It's just under powered on guns currently. Some s3 size on wings would be great. I know it's a "bomber", but it still has to have beefier guns to defend itself for runs. Some, but not much:

It can have 2 S3 size Panthers under the wing. Default it has s3 gimbals with MK IV laser Cannons. Remove the gimbals and put fixed S3 weapons on the wings. Some s3 size on wings would be great.
Weapon group configuration on the F7C-M Super Hornet
I tested @Shadow Reaper s plan yesterday, not with 4 jokers because only the P-72 can hold 4 S1 weapons but it isn't flyable yet. I took the P-52 and tested its combat capability. I entered VS together with a Mustang, not a Delta. The Mustang only had 2 M3A laser cannons. The results were surprising. The Mustang survived until wave 16, the P-52 got destroyed in wave 18. Too much missiles and too much Vanduul aces. There may be a middle way too. I was just thinking last night about Owl mentioning he might melt his Avenger, and I was thinking again about that as a personal privateer ship. I think it will mount 4 Jokers. So imagine you take it on the entry level "Desendents of Orion" mission to find and kill one pirate in one Bucky. You've flown that mission before. It's nothing special. The Bucky spawns every hour on the hour.
What you might do with an Avenger is show up just before the respawn time and stun the Bucky, get out of you ship and cut the S4 mount with the pair of Tarantulas right off, and throw it into the back of the Avenger. Then get back in and blast him to tiny bits. Respawn and do the same again. Now in about 10 minutes time you have a little cash from winning 2 missions, but more importantly you have 4 Tarantulas. That must be worth some big cash, I would think. What do they cost to purchase?
I'm wondering the same about the Blades. They've got that magnificent plasma Cannon hanging on the outside. Can we just cut that right off and toss it into the back of an Avenger? I don't care if the Vanduul blow themselves up if they give me their goodies first.
BTW, while I'm thinking of it, I'm reconsidering the utility of the P-52 ad P-72. The latter should be very fast, could mount 4 Jokers and head on they ought to have about the smallest radar cross section of any ship. In void armor who would see it coming? Weird to think of it as a Pirate ship, but the thing is probably WAAAY fast. Could be pretty fun.
This is how I like to run the Sabre. Monoboating. Usually 4 x M5A laser cannons off of the Khartu-Al, or 4 x Broadswords. I like lower rate of fire and higher impact. Haven't really played with 4x panthers yet.The Sabre isn't very effective at close range, the range where the Pyro gets effective. The Sabre is more effective at medium range, ripping through a target, select next, ripping. This way you don't lose time getting at close range and avoiding incoming fire. This is best done with 4 same weapons, That way you get concentrated fire.
Exactly this. I don't enjoy chasing two sets of pips.Mixed weapons divide your firing power, I have a 2 stage fire button. One firegroup will always miss when I use both with mixed guns.
I need to remember these desginations for playing. Its a pain in the ass trying to reset my firegroups every time i respawn. With the Super Hornet you can mount up to six guns, two in Group 1(the wings) and four in Group 2(canard and ball turrets). I only use Group 1(GT-220s) at close range, and Group 2(Omniskys) at medium range. The four turreted energy guns are more than adequate to deal with most targets.
This. This is how to monoboat. I love this.Otherwise I prefer 2 firegroups. Sabre start to tickle from medium range with 2, add the other 2 at good shot. The CF227 heats up, so if you start with 2 and continue with 4, then you still have 2 left when the first 2 get overheated. The Cutlass the same, start with 1, continue with 3 and 2 left if the first gets overheated.
I'll be playing with this as soon as I can. I love that the m7a is available in the PTU store for 0 dollars.loaded 4 M7A S5 Behring Laser on a Connie. If she wan't a murder boat before, she is now. 25 shots before Power is 0%, 30 before heat begins to register. heat build is well managed and looking at close to 50 shots before it becomes a problem.
I think it was Ripcord who was reminding me this is an old chart with several errors, but just to remind again, the Omni-IX's are supposed to shoot how you're describing: slower rate of fire doing more damage, with 33% greater range and overheating about 20% slower than the Panthers. They're even a little faster to target, but so far as I've heard, not available since 2.2.This is how I like to run the Sabre. Monoboating. I've actually never heard of the IX's before. I've only seen the III's and VI's. I have tried the Omni's VI's. I'll try them again. I think they're size 2 though, and the sabre has size 3 mounts. Same lack of hud display with shield (on Ghost anyway), but it is on your ships dashboard display. Shield defaults to bottom left and target defaults to bottom right, but I think they can be switched around. Bottom right is the worst because it gets buried behind chat window.I am not sure if the coolers or shields add to it yet.
Although I upgraded the coolers to on my tracker, I also switched guns around at the same time.
Overheating is almost a dead issue for me now.
I haven't been able to find just where you attach store bought shields yet.
The hornets shields are seriously lacking.
I haven't been able to get to my hud for weapons and shields since the 2.5 release.
it is a confirmed issue on some ships regarding the hud. It is supposed to be fixed in 2.6 so some say.Same lack of hud display with shield (on Ghost anyway), but it is on your ships dashboard display.
