If everyone is using their EVA suit for life support in the ship, that leaves the troops no oxygen to use while in battle on the ground. Most planets/moons will not have breathable atmospheres. And if they do have a breathable atmosphere, you cant open the doors up while in high altitude or you will suffocate your troops.
So troops will have 30 mins on the ground then suffocate to death?

Think we've just discovered a PLOT HOLE with the mechanics here.

30mins I think. Then you suffocate.
Ok, so if you use 15min of your EVA suit's oxygen in the ship on the way there, you are only left with 15 minutes of O2 when you step out of the ship.... this is why using your suit's oxygen in a ship crammed full of WAY more people than it's life support systems can handle is a terrible idea.

... uh er ... um ... it's a a method that could be used by a Canaries force recon unit, go attack an if they don't get immediately slaughtered then they send in the important troops.

That, or it's like Cortés burning his ships, they have to kill enemy troops to take their air supply so they're fully committed to winning the battle.

Don't forget there is consumable Oxygen packs currently in the game.

Ok, so if everyone gets 2 oxygen pens and everything prior to this, you still wont get them very far. Remember, it took a full 18 minutes to get from one planet to another during Citizencon..... You wont get your troopers very far by cramming as many as you can into one ship.

When I mentioned about having them fly from a staging ground or ship, I meant a nearby ship/station or such that was only like a 1 minute quantum jump away so you wouldn't waste your air supply.

We arnt always going to have that luxury.
Theoretically you could fly most of the way there with a fleet and have them hold about a minute or so jump away. From that point you could gather your troops onto the ship from others onto the one to drop them off and send them from there. What you could do if you didn't have any capital ships is have your troops split amongst a number of ships for dogfighting and close air support and before you jump in you have them all gather on one ship. If there's enough ships for the troops you're going to cram into the ship, then the life support would be able to sustain them. You'd still have to have some air supply after a while after they landed if there's no breathable atmosphere, though the ship that landed them could just head back somewhere to get some more oxygen pens, ammo, med pens, and such and keep running supplies and wounded back and forth as well as smaller amounts of troops for reinforcement.

At that point it'll cease to be a battle and become a war.

Too much theorycrafting for me. If you have a fleet of ships, just get more troop transport ships.
