err... sorry it's currently a bookshelf. Sorry to disappoint.... and sorry to 56k users.

Montoya over on the Discord channel encouraged me to broaden my social outlets and got me back to the TEST forums. I've been a fan of SC for a couple years now. Mid last year I set out to make as many physical models of the SC ships as humanly possible (you know, without ruining friendships and causing strain to my girlfriend). As a result I've been please with where I've come over the last couple of months and look forward to seeing how many I can churn out this year.

One of my goals was to make models that were easy to assembly, large enough to impress, and not stupidly time consuming to make. While I've been into 3D printing for many years now, I picked up a 40W laser cutter last year to add to my collection. Using the two I settled on a 80/20% Laser cut wood/3D printed model style that I've been very pleased with.

For this current batch of models I've been sticking to a 1/64 scale (roughly 20m in-game = 12in real life). All of the model design files are free and in the past distributed the links on the RSI forums... if you'd like to build one just ask and I'll get you the files.

Holy shit that is awesome!! I LOVE the combination of the wood and 3d printed bits looks do damn cool.

You sir are an official Test Genius!!!

How you getting on with the laser, they are outstanding value for money. Theres also loads of cool upgrades you can do to that, upgrade the main board, fit air assist, red dot scope etc!

Those are AWESOME!!

I see only one glaring omission. An Aurora......
Fixed that for you :)

Those ships seem stupidly fun to play with, and run up and down making noises... *¡¡Fwooosshh, pew, pew, pew, BOOOOMM!!*

Would it be hard making them out of cardboard? Not everyone have a laser cutter *searches for cheap laser cutters on ebay*.

I bow down to your greatness! Well done.
My wife would kill me if I came home with another toy like your laser. Your wife is very cool to put with this.
Love the pics from rally school. I use to do SCCA Solo before the kids came into my life, I know what you mean by fun.

I'm enjoying it a lot! The software is a bit of a snooze but works for now. Haven't decided yet if I want to upgrade the current unit or go full ham and buy a bigger cutter in general.

Too bad the DIY waterjet setups are still super expensive.

Trully amazing. i would love to get a SH one someday..... or a Polaris :P
The Polaris is definitely on my list of ships to make. I may just build one next if the yet-to-be-shown Anvil Hurricane doesn't excite me enough.

The waterjet stuff is messy as hell. Cool. But too messy even for me.

Yeh that's one of the things you get if you upgrade the board you can run better software. I'd say your doing such good stuff with the standard laser, keep it that way save up a bit and then go full ham. Can't go wrong with full ham. I did the same and got a Universal which I love to bits. If my house caught fire I'd run back into the burning building past all the porn magazines just to rescue the laser. I'd die anyway as if the fire didn't get me, trying to carry the laser down the stairs on my own would finish the job.

What 3d printer are you using - it looks really good quality. I've been fancying one for a while but struggling to work out which one to get.
