And in fact this is why I noted that a privateering group starting down in Oberon could take Leir and all the unaligned worlds to the West. . .Given Leir is unaligned however, stealing their ships and making them our own could really shift the balance of power in that region. . .
Just another head's up to note again that there are places one might capture PC-type Cap ships, as opposed to Vanduul (which are supposed to be all explodey), Xi'an, Banu and Krell (which may not exist for a long time), and UEE (which will get you Outlaw status and persona non grata on most of the galaxy map.) Lear is formally outside the UEE, but supposedly owns its own defense force made up of UEE ships. It's a single world outside controlled space the plundering of which could be easy to justify, given they have turned their backs on humanity and arrogantly pronounced their self-imposed exile from our race.

And I heard they own a Bengal christened "Come Get Me". (Well, I mighta' made that part up.)

I believe it was BoredGamer (whom I trust for the latest intel) who said it is currently I6 ships and will hopefully be expanded to 32. It is definitely ships, as these are the primary drain on the instance resources.
Well shit. That's interesting.
The protocols for entering an established instance are the real issue here
Exactly. If an instance has room for one ship, and two try to jump in at once, what happens?
Only if no one finds it and decides to take it. Much better to leave it in a hangar where it will indeed be safe.
I reckon I'll need to find a home for my ships when offline.
There was a note on this a few weeks ago that different ships will be "safe" for different periods of time, but none of them will be safe indefinitely unless they're hangared or form some sort of exception, like a Cap ship.
I'd like to read up on this. Did they happen to mention times allotted for different ships?

No. It concerns the size of the ship or crew and the number of beds or some such but they have yet to make a determination. For now it's good simply to note that you cannot spawn into a Reliant or most fighters because there is no bed, and you will not be safe in it for any amount of time that you leave it alone. So you don't want to normally leave it in empty space. Leave it in a hangar. Note th asteroid hangars are intended to meet this need for people playing a "grey" position or a black one. If you're not familiar with the astroid hangar I highly recommend the vids. They're tres cool.

There may be brief grace periods of some sort to cover when people get punted from their service but bedding down is logging off the correct/safe manner. On this issue the Redeemer, Vanguard and Lancer are safe, and the Reliant, Sabre and Hornet are not.

And note that because this will be in some degree true, it will also be true that smallish ships that eschew safety and bed down on an asteroid will offer a real surprise. You take the risk, you get the benefit from that.

BTW, there is early art on the Reliant where it had two beds. I saw it again the other day. I am a little annoyed they took them out and put the useless service access hatches in their place. Lets hope they put them back in. Likewise if you can remove the missiles for bigger fuel tanks that would be cool.

I'm late to the party, but I had to respond to this from the first page:

To the best of my knowledge there are at least 9 factions. 5 of them are governments in some sense: UEE, Xi-An, Banu, Vanduul and Krell. There is the "unaligned" world Leir (the Outsiders), which is termed "Lawless" but might consider itself under its own law since it has its own defense force. There are also at least three pirate factions operating out of Pyro, Cathcart and Fora. These last three probably don't have enough internal governance to be considered factions by every definition of the term, and likely don't operate in concerted efforts, so they make especially enticing targets if you want Drake products for any reason. I suspect there will be other groups that might qualify as factions and you could consider both The Corporation and Test as factions.

In a sense, Test is the largest and most powerful faction in SC, since it can field so many players. That is really where all the power is in this sort of game--numbers of players. And in fact this is why I noted that a privateering group starting down in Oberon could take Leir and all the unaligned worlds to the West, and eventually form its own empire because that's the sort of thing any group with hundreds of players could pull off. Test is so large it could put down roots in every part of known space, even Krell. Given Leir is unaligned however, stealing their ships and making them our own could really shift the balance of power in that region and if one could do that from Vanduul ships, the Outsiders (Leirians) would not even know who to complain about.
we need to keep in mind that there will be ten NPCs for every live player in the PU.

and they will respawn as fast as we kill 'em

so we'll never take over from any NPC faction

but we will be able to use our numbers to advantage against other player orgs

TEST might is right

Do you recall the source of this info? I did not get the impression you have from the Lore vids. I got the opposite impression, that CIG intends players reshape the universe through their actions. The entire Outsiders storyline appears to me malleable and begging intervention.

Likewise, what makes you think there are never limits to NPC generation? Did you read/hear this somewhere? I have been thinking that for all practical purposes, the numbers of NPC's the AI will generate will seem limitless when it comes to a conflict, but it seems to me it will eventually have to have some limits or why fight at all? You can't beat an infinite army. One hopes sooner or later you can replace small governments like that of the Outsiders. It's just one world and very low population.

Can we set up asteroid hangers anywhere we desire? That would be awesome. If we could set up forward operating bases in the far reaches of space withbrelative ease, we could continually keep moving further and further into the unknown.

I keep asking you for the resources and links. I do apologize. I'm honestly not that lazy or inept, haha. I just have a ten month old son that joyfully commands my attention most of my off time. That and I like to relieve my hard working wife as much as possible. Our little fella is busy. Ha.

Perhaps not the faction, but their resources/bases etc.

I can't wait to overrun an PC base or cap ship. Fuck this game will be fun.

whatever you can set up on their turf will be constantly attacked - asteroid hangars, mining and manufacturing facilities, etc

NPCs will never run out of personnel or ships

defending against attacks cuts heavily into the productivity of your carebearing activities

better to set up in an undeveloped system if your priorities are anything other than gudfites

I was on the fence about about doing some privateer work ( i'm not about trolling noobs ), but running with you guys sounds like it would be FUN AS HELL:D
I have a Cutlass Blue, Connie Aquila, Hornet Stealth ( gonna upgrade to Sabre when it's for sale again ), and 2 Dragonflies to help buff the fleet.
I really like the fact that you are all studying lore, systems and tactics ( both ship and fps ). I also like the fact you are looking at systems only seasoned players would be in for the most part. Count me in:D

Pretty please.

The credit goes to the other lads on this thread, @Shadow Reaper, @DcTrojan72, @Jim "Black Bones" Bundy, they've got the knowledge. I'm just trying to catch up, haha.

Welcome to this group of fine, upstanding citizens, reputable businessmen, and pillars of the community - all names I've chosen for my ships, FYI. ;)

@Shadow Reaper, I was under the impression, at least from what i had read, that as long as you're the only PC on your ship, if you use a bed to logout, your ship logs out with you, to prevent the stealing of ships from people who cant defend them, i highly doubt cig would let ships get taken that cant defend themselves, people would be pissed off if anytime they logged out for a day or two, especially those who have to work a lot, or travel for work, get their ship stolen or destroyed everytime they come back to the game.

I mean, there would be exceptions, like you can't logout if you are in conflict etc, and the ship stays in 'verse for x amount of time unless you wait for the logout timer etc, but the ship is supposed to despawn when you logout in a bed from what i understood.

If thats not the case, then i guess anybody i personally know including myself wont be playing very much because i want to run cargo and explore, and if i cant log out safely on a long run without my ship being in a hangar, then im just not going to play, and ill probably end up attempting to refund my $500 dollars i put into the game. I drive truck, my laptop can't run the game, there are some months where im out up to 3 weeks at a time, I would be pissed if that meant i cant do what i want in the game.

Sorry owl, added this to it xD, thats more reasoning why i think the ship will be safe, people have to work, and i would assume CIG knows this. I would also assume they realize not everyone gets to work a normal 9-5 type job, especially not if they want to actually make money in this shit economy right now. When im not driving, im working a second job as a mechanic, while modding my favorite games in the free time i have that im not playing games. Plus CIG also has to realize that not everyone likes to play a game constantly, me personally i get burnt out on games fast if i play them too much, it starts to get repetitive, etc. While i doubt the SC will ever get boring to me and there will always be something new to do, i will still end up burnt out on it, just like i am on Elite, and even 2.4.1 of SC.

i also hope they set up an option for people to be able to contract there ship out to other players for exemple i could rent a mining ship from a player and would have to give him a cut on what i make and pay for fuel inssurance etc so players with big fleet would be able to earn a few credits to finance them it would also permit a ship to operate for a long time at the same place with multiple pilots taking turns

All good my friend. And I totally understand. I'm in the same boat when it comes to the working hours etc. There are times in sent away for at a time. Those, for the most part, I can plan for. My concern comes with the emergencies. If I'm hours from a safe port in game, and the army calls with an emergency (floods/fires etc), then I'm hitting the bunk in my ship, logging out, and out the door for who knows how long. The ability to protect my ship while I'm gone is rather important to me.

I believe this is already a thing. I fully intend to rent ships out. :)
