Where over the edge?

I am very interested in making the area off the southern tip of Banu space home, down around Leir. That leaves Trise just three soft jumps away for smuggling, Fora two jumps away for stealing Pirate rigs, Oberon one jump away for smuggling weapons, Vulture one jump away for collecting Vanduul ships, and Leir itself for collecting UEE ships from The Outsiders, whom after turning their backs on humanity really can't complain when we come punish them. They are care taking after several of our Bengals, and we need to go collect them.

If you throw in the odd Banu Merchantman, basically one would be in the position to take every sort of ship in the 'verse from Leir, except Xi'an and Krell. When we actually see Krell ships in game, they would be inconveniently located so we'd need to make a "Pilgrimage" to meet them. Xi'an is its own challenge, but one we should look forward to as they have very advanced technology. In Leir, no one should show up looking for us save the odd, unfortunate bounty hunter, looking for his death.
Sounds good to me. Leir: home base for the Privateers.

I reckon they will toughen her up a wee bit. Make it a little less fragile. I heard something about how the shields are currently set up, and how they need to be redone. I expect they'll fix all the issues with the engines being so easily destroyed, as well as balance them.
Just IMHO, but the main competition for the Cutlass seems to be the Lancer, and it has 2 S5 turrets. They ought to put at least one on the Cutlass. Now imagine that thing with a pair of Omni XII's on it. That would be terrifying, especially if there is room for enhanced targeting radar. Then the visibility of the Cutlass cockpit over the Lancer's would mean something.

The system I'm talking about however is Yulin.
That is one quick jump to Leir. My concern there is whether they have an extradition treaty with UEE. If so, those marked with the callous "outlaw" brand might not be as comfortable there since the UEE could track them. That is a real issue. If the UEE issues bounties on criminals and these folks are always visible in UEE space, you will not want to be in UEE space. Could be though that Banu is a good choice, especially so close as Yulin. At least you don't have Vanduul raiding you there.

I'm getting hyped thinking about it. Even having the turret working would be a huge boost.

I equip the Lancer with 4 CF-227, replace the 6 underwing single missile platforms with 2 triple missile platforms and 4 double missile platforms. Additionally I have 6 single wingtip missile platforms.
I equip the Cutlass with 3 CF-227 and 2 triple missile platforms.
The Freelancer is the better missile boat, target, shoot 1 missile from 2 - 3k to scratch it and keep it occupied, stay shooting to kill it off. The Cutlass with one CF-227 less is the better dogfighter. I managed to kill all 18 waves with the Cutlass, the Freelancer is less agile and slower. I didn't manage to complete 18 waves (yet)but you really must use it's missiles to be successful, 1 missile doesn't kill but with a little help of 4 guns it should do fine :)

The original turrets on the FL were place-holders until they got the component system figured out. Putting 4xs4 combines on the FL was overly optimistic both in terms of balance and in terms of how item 2.0 works.

The thing is the only turrets for the s5 spots are twin-linked gimbal. Gimbal = -1 size, twin-link = -1 size, so you get a twin-linked s3 double turret in a s5 spot

The exceptions are the specialty Flashfire ball turrets for the Hornet & Cutlass, that only drop one size, because they only have a single weapon mount.

Perhaps we'll get Flashfire s4 gimballed mounts for the Freelancer as well, but they'd be a single mount on each side.

That said, if you had the weapons, equipping the FL with 4x m5a's would be pretty tasty, for me ;-)

Edit: Personally, I want a flatmount s5 puck so I can weld on some fixed Wrath plasma cannons... my DUR has those extra powerplants, see, and I wanna max them out :-) Just because the Wrath cannon is nearly as long as the Freelancer isn't any reason why it shouldn't work...

Hmmmmmm. I do that with the Sabre. May be worth testing the FL.
Just because the Wrath cannon is nearly as long as the Freelancer isn't any reason why it shouldn't work...

I am so confused since the last weapons system. They should never have changed it. So can you not fit 2 S4 weapons on an S5 turret mount? I'm curious why you're using Panthers when some of the S4's do 50% more damage.
1. I don't have S4 weapons in my stock, 2. while the Freelancer is relatively slow in manoeuvring, it is better to have fast firing low hitting weapons then low firing high hitting weapons which overheat fast. If only 25% of the shots hits target, which is very likely with fast moving light targets, then you better shoot allot. At short range the heavy weapons are very effective, but at short range while full evading it is much harder to get a solid aim. Overheating will become a big problem.
